AMSTERDAM.- During Waarvan akte: Sculpture, Marinus Boezem transforms Le Plafond into a temple, or, a podium for contemporary art. He does this by surrounding the space with classical columns made of masking tape. Hereby the space features as sculpture: the work does not reference to itself, but together with the space forms the context for a new experience.

The columns recall the Podio Del Mondo Per L’Arte (1976), an old grain exchange in Middelburg which Boezem designated as a monument for contemporary art in the future in 1976. Artists like herman de vries, Terry Fox, Lawrence Weiner, Willem Breuker and Maurizio Nannucci have all contributed works to the floor of the monument.

Sculpture forms the starting point of Waarvan akte, a series of exhibitions in which the possibilities for contemporary art in the future are examined and honored.

Marinus Boezem (1934, Leerdam, NL) is one of the founders of conceptual art in the Netherlands in the 1960s. He discovered that he could use ephemeral elements as air, the weather, wind and light as materials for his work. In 1969 he made one of his best known works, signing the the sky with his signature. Boezem made several land art works and works situated in the public sphere. De Groene Kathedraal in the polder of Almere is an amazing example of this. A cathedral executed in Italian poplars, based on the floor plan of the cathedral in Reims.

Marinus Boezem participated in both renowned exhibitions Op Losse Schroeven at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and When Attitudes Become Form at Kunsthalle Bern. After which his work has been shown in exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art, New York; Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Rotterdam; The Corcaran Gallery of Art, Washington DC; Van Abbemuseum, Einhoven; Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; Museum Kröller Muller, Otterloo; Municipal Museum of Fine Art, Kyoto; Royal Institute of British Architects, London; Vleeshal, Middelburg.

Le Plafond is a non-profit project space which opened her doors in early 2014 in the gallery district of Amsterdam. The work of among others Carlos Amorales, Bob Eikelboom, Martin Kippenberger, Antonio Vega Macotela and Jan Schoonhoven has been exhibited at Le Plafond.
