NEW YORK, NY.- Throckmorton Fine Art is presenting an unprecedented selection of pre-Columbian artifacts at the 62nd Annual Winter Antiques Show. This is the gallery’s thirtieth year participating in the legendary New York show.

We work hard to provide a wide array of options for both seasoned collectors and newcomers interested in beginning a collection of Pre-Columbian art.”

Of special interest this year at the Throckmorton stand are two Mayan artworks including a Quiche Lidded Incensario with God GI from the Late Classic era (550-950CE) in terracotta with polychrome, standing 26 inches high, and a Post Classic Mayan Coatamundi dating to 800-1000 CE, made of Volcanic stone.

Also on the Throckmorton stand at The Winter Show are two Colima objects including a striking terracotta Warrior in a defensive posture (100 BCE – 200 CE) that is 13 inches high, and a Colima terracotta Turtle Vessel in a Protoclassic style dating to 100 BCE – 250 CE, that is 12 inches high.

Another featured artwork is a stone Jaguar Metate from Costa Rica nearly 14 inches high, almost 24 inches wide, and 48 inches long. Those are just a few of the rarities on view at the stand of Throckmorton Fine Art.

Spencer Throckmorton has pursued a long held interest in pre-Columbian art, Chinese jades, Asian sculpture and Latin American photography for decades, staging gallery shows and producing a series of publications that have attracted the attention of both collectors and museum officials.

Demonstrating the gallery’s commitment to connoisseurship, Throckmorton has achieved sales to such major museums including The Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Getty and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston along with the Reina Sofia in Madrid. Portions of collections the gallery was instrumental in forming have been donated to the Louvre. The gallery loans examples on a regular basis to such significant institutions as the London National Gallery.
