NEW YORK, NY.- C24 Gallery announces its representation of British artist Nick Gentry. Gentry, who has shown internationally and is a meaningful voice in contemporary art, will have his debut solo exhibition with C24 Gallery in July 2016.

Nick Gentry’s mixed media paintings, comprised of various forms of obsolete materials, are deeply influenced by the rapid development of technology and identity in society. The conceptual basis of his work explores the areas where reality meets illusion, while drawing on references from consumer waste, pop culture and found art. His haunting portraits are comprised of artifacts of society – film negatives, x-rays, floppy discs, compact disks and cassette tapes - that are contributed directly from members of the public. This open working practice is a fundamental starting point for each new work.

With these shared materials, Gentry’s paintings treat the human form not as a subject in itself, but rather as the vehicle to carry the medium. The resulting artwork allows the viewer to question one’s own roles and deeply personal interactions in an ever-changing consumerist society by exploring the themes of materiality, patterns, technology, and transcendence.

Based in Chelsea, New York, C24 Gallery was established in 2011 with a commitment to showcasing groundbreaking contemporary art. The gallery provides a platform offering a base for contemporary artists, who have often achieved critical acclaim in diverse locales. The gallery represents artists working through all mediums, and remains dedicated to its geographically diverse program.
