Chapel Chromatica by Ellen Frances Tuchman

DALLAS, TEXAS.- The McKinney Avenue Contemporary presents today "Chapel Chromatica by Ellen Frances Tuchman," on view through February 01, 2004. Chapel Chromatica represents The MAC’s contribution to Quilt Mania, a city wide cultural endeavor in which The MAC proudly serves as Dallas’ contemporary art venue. Ellen Frances Tuchman is a visual artist based in Dallas, Texas who was inspired by both the Rothko Chapel at the Menil Collection in Houston and Gustav Klimt’s Beethoven Frieze at the Vienna Secession Museum. Tuchman has created an installation titled Chapel Chromatica featuring sixteen painted and beaded vellum panels. Each unique piece functions as a window of color and light, providing emotive and symbolic access to months of the year. The panels are not quilts but are paintings that use the language of quilting- repetition, stitched accents, beading and abstracted images that signify forms in nature. Chapel Chromatica, Ellen Frances Tuchman’s three-year artistic exploration is a celebration of color, light and seasonal changes.

The Koelsch Gallery Houston, Texas represents Ellen Frances Tuchman and will present a solo exhibition of her new mixed media paintings in April 2004.

By exhibiting contemporary paintings that use the vocabulary of quilting, The MAC hopes to provide a portal through which the quilt community may experience contemporary art using a familiar language.

The opening reception will be held at 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM Saturday, January 3 with the artist in attendance.
