LONDON.- The Museum of London and the Museum of London Docklands is on course to welcome over 1,170,000 visitors between 1 April 2015 and 31 March 2016 it was announced today. Over 280,000 of those visited the Docklands site – making it a record-breaking year. This is the third consecutive year and only the third time in the museum’s 40 year history that the attraction has been visited by over a million people over a twelve-month period.

Commenting on the record year Sharon Ament, Director of the Museum of London, said: “We’ve had our busiest year ever and these results reflect the incredible array of sell-out exhibitions and events covering everything from London’s criminal past, tattoo culture and the First World War. The Museum of London Docklands has done particularly well and exceeded all expectations. With this in mind we’re going to continue to provide exciting content that resonates with both Londoners and visitors alike to grow our visitor numbers, expand our programme of events and hit our target of working with every London school child. Next year is shaping up to be even better and I can’t wait to see our next set of results.”

A major draw to the Museum of London this year has been the blockbuster ‘Crime Museum Uncovered’ which showcases the Met Police’s previously unseen archives. Fire! Fire! is the museum’s next big, immersive exhibition. It opens in July and is set to attract families and schools, as well as adults, to explore that fateful year of 1666 when London was set ablaze. Highlights at The Museum of London Docklands in the coming year include a new gallery, No. 1 Warehouse, opening on 25 March which will tell the story of the museum’s historic building itself and Travel Photographer of the Year which opens in July.
