Early U.S. Mint-authorized coinage draws collectors to Heritage's CSNS Signature offerings
1792 Copper Disme, Judd-10 SP64 Brown, Ex: Garrett-Simpson. The Finest Known.

DALLAS, TX.- A quartet of very early U.S. Mint-authorized coins, hearkening back to the very beginning of U.S. numismatics, form the anchor for Heritage Auctions' April 27-May 1, 2016 CSNS U.S. Coins Signature® Auction held in conjunction with the annual Central States Numismatic Society Convention at the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center and Hotel, 1551 Thoreau Drive North, Schaumburg, IL.

“We're featuring two dismes that are pattern issues produced by the mint," said Greg Rohan, President of Heritage Auctions. “Those are followed by a circulation issue half disme produced before the mint was completed, finishing with an early regular mint issue half cent."

The finest known J-10 1792 Disme SP64 Brown PCGS Secure, Ex: Garrett-Simpson, an incredible artifact of the first days of the United States in the form of one of the first coins minted in the newly constructed Philadelphia Mint. Its rarity, historical significance and close association with David Rittenhouse and the founding of the first Mint ensure that most elite numismatists in the hobby will be considering their bids very carefully. The finest known 1792 Silver Disme AU50 PCGS Secure, Ex: Judd-Donald G. Partrick Collection offers collectors a rare second chance in just 18 months to acquire one of the most important and seminal U.S. coinage issues.

Half Disme MS63 NGC in the auction is an historic pre-Mint issue that's fascinated collectors and Mint officials alike for decades. While it is still believed by many that Martha Washington herself, America's first First Lady, was the model for the figure of Liberty, we do know that the coins were struck from Washington's Sheffield silver plate, and that Gen. Washington and Martha were in attendance when the coins were presented, making it a distinct possibility that America's first President may have held this very coin.

A 1793 Half Cent MS64 Brown PCGS Secure, Ex: Pawling, Brobston, Charles Jay, rounds out the top early Mint-authorized coinage with an example that ranks unquestionably among the finest Cohen-3 1793 half cents in existence.

Further highlights include, but certainly are not limited to:

• 1854-O Liberty Double Eagle AU55 NGC: Classic O-Mint rarity, Condition Census Candidate.

• 1776 $1 Continental Dollar MS65 PCGS Secure: High-Quality Pewter Example.

• 1866-S $20 No Motto MS61 PCGS: Rare 'No Motto' Variant, Condition Census Example.

• 1839-O Reeded Edge Half Dollar Branch Mint PR65, Ex: Robinson: The Finest of Four Examples Known.

• 1915-S Five-Piece Panama-Pacific Set, Plus Box: Unc Details Through MS65, All PCGS-Certified, First Time this set has been offered at Public Auction.
