LONDON.- Martin Tomlinson, the well-known motorsport artist whose passion for cars makes him sought out by many who love cars, has been chosen by H&H Classics to bring something fresh to its auctions – an artistic presence in the saleroom.

Martin specializes in painting life-like representations of motorsport and has exhibited paintings at Silverstone, Le Mans, Goodwood Festival of Speed and in London’s West End. Now, eight times a year he will be in action at H&H Classics sales painting and sketching before and during each sale.

Works by Martin are owned by some very famous names including John Surtees, Zak Brown and Theo Paphitis, BRDC, Mark Blundell and the late Carroll Shelby. His limited edition prints have been signed by Sir Stirling Moss, Phil Hill, Chris Amon and Roy Salvadori amongst others. He will be happy to take commissions from anyone buying or selling a car or indeed just visiting the auction.

Martin has been passionate about motorsport from as long as he can remember and has always sketched and painted racing cars. This passion for racing started when he went to a meeting at Crystal Palace in the early 1950’s. Since then, apart from Farina and Ascari he has seen every single F1 World Champion in action. Martin has himself raced at Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Snetterton and Llandow and has even attempted commentating at Brands Hatch following an appeal in ‘Motoring News’ for new commentators at Club events.

Now he will be in the thick of the auction with H&H a company that is one of only five to have sold a car for more than $10m – a 1960 Ferrari 250 GT short-wheelbase Berlinetta from the Richard Colton Collection in Oct 2015 to benefit the RNLI. It was the biggest donation that the life-saving charity has ever received.

Simon Hope, Chairman of H&H for the past 23 years, says: “We are delighted to have Martin Tomlinson as our artist in residence. All of us who love cars have fallen in love with them originally through our eyes. The sheer beauty of the best car design will stand the test of time. And in Martin we are fortunate to have one of the best exponents of automotive art join us. He is someone who understands that love affair and who will add significantly to the rich mix of charm and excitement that makes H&H auctions what they are.”

Martin works in gouache to two styles; the traditional style which features a specific car/driver combination at a particular event. For those who own classic or historic racing or sports cars this could mean that the painting could feature the owner/driver at an historic meeting or if the car has a history, the car in period.

Recently he has developed an alternative graphic style. This features a static car with a limited background consisting of the manufacturers’ badge and one or two items which relate to that specific car. This style is ideal for classic and collectors road cars.

Martin also works in pencil and a pencil sketch will cost less than a painting, as they do not take as long to create.

To commission a painting or drawing of your car or your favourite motorsport memory, contact Martin a motorsport artist who knows subject inside out. His work ranges in price from £1,000 to £10,000.
