LOS ANGELES, CA.- Julien's Auctions, the world record breaking auction house to the stars, hosted the Street Art and Contemporary Art auction on April 30, 2016 in Los Angeles which raised over $1.3 million. The sale featured extraordinary highlights from the most sought after street artists including graffiti artist Banksy. The Banksy artwork collection consisted of nine artworks and was among the highlights of the one day auction bringing in bids from all over the world.
Aside from the extraordinary Banksy art works, the auction also featured several prominent pieces from by the iconic street artist Shepard Fairey, RETNA, Damien Hirst, Alec Monopoly, KAI, DOC, Gregory Siff, and Mar. Contemporary art offered was highlighted by works by Keith Haring, Yayoi Kusama, Andy Warhol, Basquiat, Robert Rauschenberg and influential urban artists such as Ben Eine, Rene Gagnon, Zevs, D*Face, Faile, Kaws, Ludo, Dolk, Saber, Nick Walker, Hush, Paul Insect and others.
Fast and furious bidding exemplified the demand for art by the elusive Banksy. Highlights of those sold at Julien's Auctions include Bansky "Untitled (DJ & Crane)" 1999 which sold for $128,000, Banksy "Heart Boy" which sold for $125,000, Banksy "Happy Chopper" (2002) which sold for $140,800, Banksy "Toxic Mary" (2004) which sold for $12,800, Banksy "Bomb Love" which sold for $35,200 and Banksy "NOLA" (2009) which sold for $41,600, among others.
Other post-auction highlighted results include the Shepard Fairey "Walk The Line" (2005) which sold for $32,000, Ben Eine "Black Circus A to Z" (2011) which sold for $15,000, Andy Warhold "MAO" (1972) which sold for $28,800, a Robert Rauschenberg art work which sold for $32,000, Paul Insect "Brigitte Bardot" (2011) which sold for $6,250, Alec Monopoly "Jack Nicholson" (2011) which sold for $10,000, Wrdsmith with Imhuge "The Only" (2016) which sold for $8,320, Faile "Mini Puzzle Box" (2014) which sold for $12,800, and Sandra Chevier "La Cage Qui A Donne Cavle A L'Humanite" (2014) which sold for $8,960.
