Newport Antiques show celebrates tenth anniversary
G. Sergeant Antiques.

NEWPORT, RI.- Over the last decade, the Newport Antiques Show has ascended as one of America’s leading upscale antiques events. It’s no surprise that Antiques & The Arts Weekly has described the Show as, “One of the most interesting events around: glamorous, luxurious, festive, colorful, knowledgeable.”

Each year the Newport Antiques Show presents a selection of over 40 of the industry’s most distinguished antiques dealers in one venue alongside a loan exhibit and series of educational lectures. This year the Show will continue to feature a diverse selection of antiques and will include an educational component, but it will also host dealers who have a more modern focus such as photographs. Additionally the Show will highlight “exhibit vignettes” in a series entitled Curating the Future: Trends in Collecting Today presented by the Newport Historical Society, which will showcase objects from the NHS collection that illustrate the changes in collecting antiques or “curiosities” since the Society was founded in the mid-19th century.

Also new to the Show, visitors can meet with experts from America’s oldest auction house Free-man’s on Sunday July 24th. Learn what your favorite antique object, piece of fine art or jewelry is worth during What’s It Worth. Receive a personalized verbal auction estimate for one or two objects from a Freeman’s specialist, some of whom appear on PBS’ Antiques Roadshow. A spe-cial admission ticket is required for What’s It Worth, which includes a Newport Antiques Show gift bag.

Nicholas and Shelley Schorsch along with William and Elizabeth Kahane are partnering as the Show’s Presenting Sponsors; Franklin & Company Design Associates returns as the Gala Preview Party Sponsor. Freeman’s is joining the Show as the Tenth Anniversary Sponsor.

The 2016 Newport Antiques Show takes place July 22-24 at the St. George’s School Ice Rink in Middletown, RI; the Show opens with the July 21st Gala Preview Party. General admission costs $15 per person or $20 for a three-day pass, which includes a daily lecture and the chance to browse and shop amongst the country’s most exclusive antiques dealers. Admission with the opportunity to meet with a Freeman’s appraiser costs $40 for one antique or $60 for two antiques, which includes the general admission benefits..
