Amon Carter Museum of American Art names Cliff Vanderpool new Director of External Affairs
Vanderpool comes to the Amon Carter from the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum on the campus of West Texas A&M University in Canyon, where he served as director for the past 12 years.

FORT WORTH, TX.- The Amon Carter Museum of American Art announces that Guy C. “Cliff” Vanderpool has joined the museum’s leadership team as the director of external affairs. In this role Vanderpool oversees fundraising, public relations and marketing for the museum.

“Cliff offers a breadth of experience in museum management, particularly in advancement and marketing,” says Scott Wilcox, chief operating officer. “He will be invaluable as we continue to expand the Amon Carter’s position as one of the great American art museums.”

Vanderpool comes to the Amon Carter from the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum on the campus of West Texas A&M University in Canyon, where he served as director for the past 12 years. During his tenure at Texas’ largest history museum, he oversaw two capital campaigns and helped increase corporate support and membership. Prior to that, Vanderpool spent 10 years as the executive director of the Texarkana Museums System. In addition to his directorships, he has been a college history instructor for the past two decades.

“I am honored to join the staff of the Amon Carter Museum of American Art,” says Vanderpool. “The museum is internationally recognized for its excellent collection and exhibitions, and I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this outstanding organization.”

Vanderpool holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Lipscomb University in Nashville and a master’s degree in American history from Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro.
