LONDON.- The National Portrait Gallery has acquired, as a gift from the photographer Josh Olins, five of the photographic portraits of HRH The Duchess of Cambridge commissioned for the June 2016 centenary issue of British Vogue as a collaboration between the magazine, the National Portrait Gallery and The Duchess, it was announced today, Monday 20 June 2016. Three of the portraits will go on display at the Gallery on Tuesday 21 June 2016 and will be on view until Wed 27 July 2016.

The portraits by British photographer Josh Olins were shot in the Norfolk countryside as part of a portfolio of seven images commissioned for British Vogue, two of which were also displayed for a limited period in the Gallery’s Vogue 100: A Century of Style exhibition, which, with 152,290 visitors, was one of the most successful exhibitions in the Gallery’s history.

The Duchess of Cambridge has been Patron of the National Portrait Gallery since 2012, one of the first patronages taken on after her marriage to HRH The Prince William, recognising her interest in photography and portraiture.

British Vogue’s centenary June issue adds to their record of royal portraiture with the work of Cecil Beaton, Norman Parkinson, Lord Snowdon, Patrick Demarchelier and Mario Testino.

Two of the portraits of The Duchess by Josh Olins can also be seen in the exhibition Vogue 100: A Century of Style which tours to Manchester Art Gallery from 24 June until 30 October 2016.
