LINCOLN, NEB.- Sheldon Museum of Art at the University of NebraskaLincoln has named Carrie Morgan curator of academic programs.
Morgan comes to Lincoln from Cambridge, Massachusetts, where she managed the Moriarty Art and Design Library for Lesley University and provided leadership in the provision of arts related library services across campus. Recently, she collaborated with a team of Lesley faculty on a project funded by the Davis Educational Foundation to create new pedagogical projects that integrate visual literacy across the liberal arts, science disciplines, and professional majors. She also oversaw the move of the library collection and launch of services in a new facility, an historic church building adapted for reuse.
We are thrilled that Carrie has joined the staff at Sheldon, said Wally Mason, the museums director and chief curator. Her comprehensive experience in art history and library science will greatly benefit our initiatives to more fully integrate the art museum into the curriculum of the university.
Much of Morgans professional work has been in academic libraries. Morgan has held the positions of instruction and outreach librarian at Sonoma State University; fine arts and architecture librarian at the University of Utah; and assistant curator for the University of California, Berkeleys Environmental Design Archives.
Morgan sees a direct correlation of this work with that of her new position. As a librarian, I regularly liaise with various university stakeholders and external partners to enhance student learning, support innovative teaching and research, and contribute to university goals and initiatives, she said. Ill be doing much the same at Sheldon.
Morgan holds a masters degree in art history as well as one in library and information science. She has taught college art history courses and provided educational support for several exhibitions at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City. Her recent publications include coediting Landscape at Berkeley: The First 100 Years (The UC Regents, 2013) and coauthoring Factors Affecting the Successful Assessment of a Common Assignment for First Year Composition Information Literacy (College & Undergraduate Libraries, 2014).
Although Morgan will serve in a new role at Sheldon, she is no stranger to the museum and the UNL campus. She is an alumna of the university (BFA, 1996) and a former Sheldon intern.
