SHEFFIELD.- A new exhibition on view at the
Millennium Gallery this summer showcases Sheffield as a true city of making. Made in Sheffield celebrates the remarkable breadth of manufacture and craftsmanship that has earnt the city an international reputation for excellence and innovation.
Made in Sheffield reflects the diversity of design and production that takes place in the city region today; from global aeronautical engineering and world-class manufacturing to ground-breaking digital industries, as well as the many talented individuals working in studios and workshops across Sheffield.
Curated by Museums Sheffield, the exhibition sees over 100 Sheffield companies at the forefront of their industry represented in a range of inventive and visually striking displays. Visitors have the opportunity to explore the work of a host of nationally and internationally-renowned businesses, from steel manufacturers OutoKumpu and AESSEAL to product development specialists Fripp Design and digital pioneers WANDisco and Pimoroni. Made in Sheffield also celebrates the quality and workmanship synonymous with the city, from bespoke brands such as Field Cycles to designer maker silversmiths Janet Wass and Keith Tyssen.
· Outokumpu Stainless Ltd is part of the global Outokumpu Group, one of the world's leading stainless steel companies. Amongst the largest manufacturers in the city region, Outokumpu offers one of the broadest and highest quality stainless steel product ranges on the market. The Sheffield site employs over 500 people, with facilities including a melting shop, rod mill, and a stocking, processing and distribution centre.
· Formed in 2004 by Steve Roberts and Tom Fripp, Fripp Design and Research have spent over a decade helping clients to get their new product developments to market. To date they have delivered over 800 design projects in markets as broad as medical devices, health and safety, packaging and industrial equipment. The company has developed its own manufacturing processes which utilise advanced digital technology to produce unique products including prosthetics and orthotics.
· Field Cycles build bespoke framesets for customers all over the world and have collaborated with some of the worlds finest cycling brands, including ENVE Composites, Campagnolo and Columbus. Founded in 2010 in Sheffield by cycling enthusiast Harry Harrison, the business now comprises of designers, frame builders, prototype engineers, machinists and painters working together with a shared passion to produce beautifully made hand-crafted bicycles.
· Keith Tyssen is a designer maker of contemporary silverwork based in Persistence Works, Sheffield. Tyssen studied at The Royal College of Art in London before opening his workshop in 1963. His design and metalwork combines quiet originality with a light-hearted and elegant style, fine quality manufacture and attention to detail. Tyssen's designs are frequently exhibited via Contemporary British Silversmiths and with British Silver Week, at a variety of other shows and also made for individual customers.

Made in Sheffield will shine a spotlight on the diverse ideas, developments, products and progress that see makers and businesses in the city at the top of their field.
