HONG KONG.- Sotheby’s will present an important private collection, titled An Exceptional Cellar from the Old and New World, that features a spectacular selection of top class wines from the Old and New World spanning 65 years. Old world highlights include multiple vintages and formats of all first growths and right bank equivalents, and the sale also sees new world gems including a collection of rare Sine Qua Non in magnum format. The sale comprises over 800 lots estimated at HK$13 – 19 million / US$1.7 – 2.4 million.

Serena Sutcliffe, M.W., Honorary Chairman, Sotheby’s Wine, said, “We are very excited to present this outstanding Single Owner Sale from a good friend of Sotheby’s and a gifted and adventurous wine collector who has covered the best viticultural areas of the world. It makes one gasp to see the breadth of choice and winemaking talent contained in this sale – you could call it ‘perfect pitch’. The span of wine styles and regions, vintages and formats is extraordinary, illustrating the consumer curiosity of this collector who wanted to taste and experience such a wide variety of fabulous wines from both the New and the Old Worlds. It is a ‘tour de force’ of collecting, a living testament to what oenology is all about in both the 20th and 21st centuries. You cannot amass a collection of this stature overnight – it takes time, patience and access to the best sources.”

Adam Bilbey, Head of Sotheby’s Wine Asia, said, “This September, we are especially delighted to offer an array of magnificent vintages spanning 65 years that represent some of the finest Bordeaux châteaux from both the left and right bank in rare formats. This is mirrored by an eclectic mix of mature vintages from iconic estates across the New World that one seldom sees on the market. With a plethora of rare larger formats on offer, this gives wine collectors an opportunity to indulge in some of the finest wines produced from across the globe - a chance no true wine lover should miss!”
