NEW YORK, NY.- Photograph magazine, a vital publication for the world of photo-based art, has announced two changes to the masthead. Anthony Beale has been named the publisher of Photograph, taking over from Bill Mindlin, the founder and longtime publisher and editor, who has announced his retirement after nearly 30 years. Jean Dykstra has been named editor of Photograph. Dykstra has been affiliated with the magazine for more than 15 years, as a columnist and contributing editor, and most recently as the managing editor.
Anthony is an accomplished professional and a creative leader, Mindlin said. He began working at Photograph over 22 years ago while still an MFA student at the School of Visual Arts. Over the years, he has worked to strengthen Photographs reach, and has developed an expertise in the management of advertising and printing, as well as the development of our website and social media platforms.
Jean, with her in-depth insight and knowledge of the field combined with her extensive contacts, has spearheaded our efforts to greatly expand the editorial content both in print, online, and through social media, Mindlin noted. Its been an enormous pleasure working with both of them, and I look forward to seeing what new visions and growth opportunities they will bring to Photograph.
Anthony Beale studied visual arts at Rutgers University and earned his MFA in photography, video, and related media from the School of Visual Arts. Before joining Photograph, he was a studio assistant for the Ernst Haas Studio, and he worked with Deborah Willis at the International Center for Photography to catalogue the Daniel Cowin Collection of African- American History.
Jean Dykstra has been instrumental in expanding the editorial content of Photograph magazine from reviews and columns to feature articles and interviews and recruiting a stable of highly regarded contributors and writers. Dykstra studied English at Rutgers, earned an MA in journalism at the Columbia School of Journalism, and an MA in visual anthropology from Temple University. Previously an editor at Art + Auction magazine and Art on Paper magazine, Dykstra has written extensively about photo-based art for more than 20 years.
