PELHAM, NY.- The Pelham Art Center will present Constructing New Photographies, a new exhibition of three contemporary photographers on view September 9 through October 22, 2016.

Constructing New Photographies examines new uses of photography through the artwork of photographers Magali Duzant, Jim Ramer, and Carol Warner. With the omnipresence of images in our lives and the ubiquitous use of iPhones as cameras, emerging and seasoned photographers are finding exciting new ways to distinguish their work in the field. Moving beyond a simple visual record, photography now has the ability to be infinitely flexible easily incorporating and collaborating with other medias such as video, installation, text, sculpture and the environment. As photography now moves forward operating on multiple levels and dimensions, this relatively new art medium is transforming and blurring its boundaries thus redefining art, technology and culture. This exhibition explores these new photographic worlds. Constructing New Photographies is curated by professor, author, and artist, Stacy M. Miller.

Magali Duzant works within an expanded photographic practice (often incorporating video, text, sculpture, and illustration); examining the role of technology as a mediator of our experiences and the passage and perception of light and time. Her practice looks at our desires to track, record, and interpret our daily lives and interactions. Working within a process-based practice, romantic gestures emerge from the data as answers to a rapidly changing, digitized world. Recent exhibitions include the Queens International 2016 at the Queens Museum, NYC, Fung Wah Biennial at Flux Factory, Lift Off at Fridman Gallery in NYC, Interpretations at the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia, and Unbound at Parramatta Artist Studios in Sydney, Australia. She holds an MFA in Photography from Parsons The New School for Design and a BHA in Fine Arts and Visual Culture from Carnegie Mellon University.

Jim Ramer is an artist, educator and curator. His work spans photography, video sculpture, and installation. Most recently, his work was featured in solo exhibitions at the Pingyao International Photography Festival and at Jay Etkin Gallery, Santa Fe, NM. He has curated numerous exhibitions and is the former Director of Delta Axis Contemporary Arts Center and a co-founder of Art Workers Unions Plan B Gallery. He is the founder of the Center for Photographic Media and Culture at Parsons. He has lectured internationally on photography and photographic education, most recently at the Society of Photographic Education Southwestern Conference in Denver, CO; New York Photo Festival and the Singapore International Photo Festival. He currently serves as the Director of the MFA in Photography at Parsons the New School for Design in New York City.

Carol Warner is an artist and arts educator. Warner graduated from Parsons The New School for Design with an MFA in Photography and Related Medias. Her work examines how photography shapes social, cultural and personal expectations. It is a synthesis of diverse media including photography, drawing and sculptural materials. Recording subtle, personal moments in time, Warner explores traditional subjects, such as the figure, the home and the still life with an attention to light and line, organic and geometric shapes. Recent exhibitions of her work include: "Weaving In and Out," with No Longer Empty, "From Here to There: Images In or About Transitions," curated by Robert G. Edelman, and "Ides of March: The Seventh Biennial Exhibition" at ABC No Rio. She lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
