Monumental Carved Musical Tall Case Clock in Morphy Auctions Premier Fine and Decorative Arts sale Sunday, September 3, 2016 with an estimate of $60,000-150,000.

NEW YORK, NY.- Bidsquare welcomes new houses with leading sales listed this month: James D. Julia, Jackson Hole Art Auction and Morphy Auctions. From monumental Italian decor to intricately carved musical clocks, rare details spark interest in late August auctions and early September sales on Bidsquare. Highlights include American and European decorative arts and furniture, sports and entertainment memorabilia, fine art and more.

Leading off with rare Italian design, An Extremely Important & Monumental Le Funi Urn by Gio Ponti made in 1927 comes to auction from James D. Julia next Friday, August 26. Gio Ponti created this decoration specifically for this large tapered vase form in the summer of 1926. In a letter dated August 13, 1926, Ponti noted, "Having approved on the 4th of this month the decoration of the large vase with ropes, please arrange its execution for I could see it accomplished at the end of this month. We need to have two of these vases ready for a symmetric display at the exhibition." He was referring to the III Monza Triennale of 1927, in which a pair of these vases were exhibited. It is stated there are two other examples of this design known, one original in the Lauro Collection, which is now in a private collection in Verona, and the second is in a private collection in Genoa.

In Asian Works of Art, James D. Julia features an Important Pair of Porcelain Plaques by Wang Dafan. Each panel depicts a scholar with maiden and date to the summer of the jiyi year (1929), the panels were painted by one of the eminent members of the Zhushan Bayou (Eight Friends of the ‘Pearl Hill’), a group that specialized in famille rose porcelain wares during the Republican Period. Wang Dafan is best known for his depiction of large historical figures and novel shading techniques. These panels were purchased by an American family in the 1960’s and will come to auction August 26.

For the connoisseur of clocks, Morphy Auctions brings a Monumental Carved Musical Tall Case Clock to auction September 3. The oversized clock has a spectacular carving of Robin Hood in tribute to the 14th century folklore tail. The clock's case is purportedly carved from Sherwood Forest wood. It comes with provenance that states it was once owned by the Governor of West Virginia and was shipped back by him from the UK at the turn of the century. The clock movement contains four trains and the dial is dated 1742.

For music lovers, Leslie Hindman Auctioneers steps in with familiar star names in entertainment and sports in the Making and Breaking Records auction on August 30. The sale features over 100 certified platinum presentation albums from the private collection of Jeff McCluskey, in addition to autographed guitars, sports memorabilia and Comiskey park stadium seats. Jeff McClusky is a nationally recognized independent promoter of music and the founder and CEO of Jeff McClusky & Associates, which has been the leading independent radio promotion entity in the US for the past 35 years. The company represents and has represented virtually every major recording artist that has had a radio promotion campaign for the Alternative, Top 40, Hot AC, Rhythm Crossover and Rock genres.

Mr. McClusky’s private collection of hundreds of certified platinum presentation albums come from premier artists such as The Beatles, Madonna, Jay Z, Jennifer Lopez and Whitney Houston. Part of this collection, along with his posters, musical instruments and music memorabilia will be offered as a section in the Making and Breaking Records: Entertainment and Sports Memorabilia auction on August 30.

Looking ahead to September, Jackson Hole Art Auction leads with its Western works, bringing a high-quality work by N.C. Wyeth, He Rode Away Following a Dim Trail Among the Sage to auction. In 1902, Wyeth received the opportunity that would shape the rest of his career and firmly cement his place in the canon of American art—to study with the father of American illustration, Howard Pyle. Arguably the most successful of Pyle’s protégés, Wyeth encapsulated all of his teachings and within two years was well on his way to establishing his own career. Wyeth painted He Rode Away Following a Dim Trail Among the Sage in 1909.
