SALT LAKE CITY, UT.- The Utah Museum of Contemporary Art presents regional Artist Andrew Rice in a solo exhibition (re)Structured in the Projects Gallery.

Artist Andrew Rice works with oil sticks to create a surface with history by approaching the process from a print-making perspective. His methodical, step-by-step approach produces work rich in narrative texture and expository substance, taking the viewer on a journey through the artist's systematic movement.

( re)Structured aims to portray a state of inaccessibility, where the world is just as elusive to us as we are to it. A place where security and isolation become synonymous. Layers upon layers of entrapment, we all, to some degree, have a tendency to create shell-like environments that become safe havens from the harsh world around us. A place that provides protection, but also prevents us from fully experiencing life. We exist in lonely anonymity.

Andrew Rice received his MFA from the University of Utah in 2013, and his BFA from the University of Colorado in 2005. His work has been featured in multiple galleries throughout the state of Utah including CUAC, and the Salt Lake City Public Library, as well as galleries in Idaho and Hawaii. Currently a Salt Lake City resident, Rice operates primarily in the mediums of printmaking and painting. His work is heavily influenced by systematic processes of creativity and labour, as well as degeneration and reconstruction, revealed through his narrative layering and presentation.

The Utah Museum of Contemporary Art has been an award-winning aesthetic force and community leader since it was established in 1931. Located in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City, UMOCA encourages exploration into what it means to exist in today's world through art that inspires imagination, stimulates thought, and transforms society.
