DALLAS, TX.- Heritage Auctions has announced that Rachel Weathers, an arts specialist with more than 25 years of experience, has joined the firm’s Dallas offices as a Consignment Director of Decorative Arts.

Weathers is a fifth-generation Texan who entered the art world with gallerist Eugene Binder in his Deep Ellum, Dallas space, as well as in a position with the Public Art Coordinator for the City of Dallas working on the Freedman’s Cemetery Memorial Project. A New Orleans resident since 1999, she most recently served as the Vice President and as Director of Paintings, Prints and Photography at Neal Auction Company, New Orleans’ oldest auction house in operation. Through the years, Weathers has cataloged extensive collections, overseen exhibition installations and worked at more than 100 auctions.

“The experience Rachel brings dovetails perfectly with our growing fine and decorative arts category,” said Ed Beardsley, Vice President of Heritage Auctions. “Rachel will be working closely with Karen Rigdon, Director of Silver and Decorative Arts, and colleagues in Heritage offices around the country, to continue to expand our services.”

A generalist with art and antiques, Weathers has extensive knowledge in American Furniture of the 19th century and paintings of the deep South from the 19th and 20th centuries. Following Hurricane Katrina, Weather’s expertise in appraising and wide knowledge spanning paintings and furniture was crucial to clients pursuing conservation following the storm.

For the last several years, Weathers was instrumental in developing successful proposals for important and significant collections. She also oversaw condition reports and reviewed auction estimates.

At Heritage Auctions, Rachel Weathers will be charged with securing collections of all manner of fine art and collectibles, and will be based in the firm’s growing Design District Annex, 1518 Slocum St., Dallas.

“I am thrilled to be part of the rapidly expanding organization here at Heritage,” Weathers said. “Though I have had my hand on many antiques and works of fine art in the last twenty years, I now have colleagues who also have expertise in Numismatics, Sports Memorabilia, Comics and Fine Wine, among others. I can go into a house to appraise a Georgian sideboard, and come out with a Roman coin to show to an expert. My horizons will expand every day. Also, Dallas has always been truly home for me, and I am so happy to be here.”
