ELMHURST, IL.- Elmhurst Art Museum announces Lal Bahcecioglu as its Exhibitions Coordinator, effective immediately. In this newly created role at EAM, Bahcecioglu will collaborate with the museum's roster of national and international guest curators including New York-based Dan Nadel on the upcoming Kings and Queens: Pinball, Imagists and Chicago, which opens at EAM in February 2017.

"After reviewing hundreds of qualified applications, I am delighted to welcome Lal Bahcecioglu,” said EAM Executive Director Jenny Gibbs. “Lal brings the most up-to-date knowledge of curatorial practice as well as expertise in architecture, which she studied in Vienna, making her a valuable team member in the restoration and interpretation of the cornerstone of EAM's collection, Mies van der Rohe's McCormick House.”

“I found Lal to be one of the most competent, thorough, intelligent, visionary and hard-working people I have ever worked with in the art world,” said internationally renowned Chicago-based artist Kay Rosen in a statement. Rosen worked with Bahcecioglu in New York and in Istanbul.

Bahcecioglu most recently curated Sneak a Peek, an open-air exhibition in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City, featuring videos unexpectedly displayed inside the street-level windows of apartment dwellers, which was hailed by critics as a must-see show.

Lal Bahcecioglu is originally from Istanbul, has worked in New York City, and is now based in Chicago. She received her bachelor's degree in Architecture from Vienna University of Technology. Before moving to the US, she worked in several art institutions including the Zilberman Gallery, one of the leading contemporary art galleries in Turkey. She moved to New York in 2014 and acquired her Master’s degree in Curatorial Practice from the School of Visual Arts.
