A passionate and ever acquisitive collector, Gordon Watson has entrusted Christie’s with the sale of the collection in order to make room for new works of art. Driven by expertise and passion, Watson spent several years gathering fascinating and innovative works of art and design. The collection comprises Indian, Japanese, English and European Furniture, European ceramics, 20th century design and Contemporary works of art produced by artists such as Sarah Lucas, Wolfgang Tillmans and Walead Beshty. With 196 lots, the offering promises to provide bidding opportunities for collectors at every level, with estimates for individual lots ranging from £500 to £50,000. Gordon Watson will be discussing the wonderful pieces on offer at the Christie’s Late event on 4 October at Christie’s South Kensington, which is free and open to the public.

One of London’s most respected antique dealers, Watson founded his gallery in the 70s in central London. The shop was a success from its foundation and throughout the years has welcomed numerous high-profile clients including Elton John and Mick Jagger. Watson has appeared on the Channel 4 programme Four Rooms and his latest foray into the world of television in the recent BBC2 series: The Extraordinary Collector, which saw him visit and add items to distinguished English collections.

Gordon Watson states: “I believe that it is each work of art’s destiny to travel from one connoisseur to another”.
