HONG KONG.- The sale offered a selection of high-calibre works sourced from the collections of esteemed connoisseurs and family estates, such as Huang Guifen, Sakamoto Gorō, Mei Jing Shuwu, as well as the Mi Yun Hall Collection. Many of these works performed strongly, a testament to collectors appetite for works with distinguished provenance.
o Shen Zhous Landscapes from The Mi Yun Hall Collection fetched HK$17.36 million / US$2.23 million, more than eight times its pre-sale high estimate, crowning top lot of the sale. It is followed by the second highest selling lot, Attributed to Su Shis Speech of Scholar Returning Home in Regular Script, which sold for HK$7.28 million / US$933,333.
o Attributed to Wang Meng, Elegant Gathering by the Spring from the collection of Sakamoto Gorō, achieved HK$5.6 million / US$717,949, 20 times its high estimate.
o Three works from The Huang Guifen Collection made it to the top ten list, including Yi Bingshous Calligraphy, Wang Huis Landscape after Cao Zhibai and Landscape after Ni Zan.
o Wu Lis Spring Mountains in Seclusion from The Mei Jing Shuwu Collection sold for HK$6.08 million / US$779,487.
o In addition, Jin Nongs Ink Plum Blossom fetched HK$5 million / US$641,026, and Wen Zhengmings Letters to Lu Shidao achieved HK$4.88 million / US$625,641.
