NEW YORK, NY.- Dia Art Foundation announced today that it received a gift from The Dr. Mortimer and Theresa Sackler Foundation to establish the Sackler Institute. Marissa Sackler is a trustee of Dia Art Foundation.
The endowment for the Sackler Institute will support and promote the intellectual content of Dias core programming. The Sackler Institute, a center without walls, establishes a unique umbrella structure within Dia, bringing together public programs, education, research, and scholarship across all of its sites. These include: Artists on Artists Lecture Series, Discussions in Contemporary Culture, Readings in Contemporary Poetry, Community Free Days, Gallery Talks, Education Programming, Publications, Archives, and Conservation and Research.
The Sackler Foundations generous gift provides a new platform for Dias critical programs, said Jessica Morgan, Director of Dia Art Foundation. We are grateful to Marissa Sackler and her family for their leadership and support. We are confident that the creation of the Sackler Institute will be a catalyst for expanding and deepening our rich network of ideas and knowledge, which is at the heart of Dias mission.
The intellectual vigor of Dias programs is unique, said Marissa Sackler, Trustee, Dia Art Foundation. I am thrilled that my family and I can help Dia continue to strengthen an already strong program as well as encourage innovation and new scholarship in contemporary art.
Jessica Morgan, Director, Dia Art Foundation, will direct the Sackler Institute. James Meyer, Chief Curator and Deputy Director, Dia Art Foundation, will serve as the curator in charge.
