Jessie Kang, Head of Watches, Sotheby’s Asia, commented, “Purchasing watches at auction can be a rewarding experience, for it is where collectors discover not only unique pieces that are hard to come by on the market, but also new models that are attractively-estimated. We have garnered for this sale a diverse line-up of fine watches that is set to satisfy collectors and their loved ones in this festive time.”

AUCTION HIGHLIGHTS

Classic Watches
Patek Philippe, A Very Rare And Fine Platinum Automatic Wristwatch With Enamel Dial, In Original Seal, Ref 5077P-056 MVT 5532071 Case 4512517 “Phoenix” Circa 2011 Est. HK$700,000 – 900,000/ US$90,500 – 116,000

The minimalist design of the Ref 5077P-056 dial and the stylised posture of the phoenix evoke an archaic ambience that harks back to ancient Chinese traditions. This previous timepiece brings out the best of the West and the East by masterfully combining Patek Philippe’s magnificent craftsmanship of watchmaking tradition and the symbol of the glorious Chinese heritage, phoenix, in one single timepiece.

A. Lange & Söhne, A Fine And Rare Limited Edition Platinum Tourbillon Wristwatch With Date And Power Reserve Indication, No 125/150 Lange 1 Tourbillon Circa 2003 Est. HK$600,000 – 800,000/ US$77,500 – 104,000
Proudly displaying the ‘Made in Germany’ attribute, the current model is the world’s first wristwatch with a tourbillon, a patented outsized date, twin mainspring barrels for three days’ power reserve, and a progressive power reserve indicator. This limited edition that ceased production in 2003 consists of 250 pieces in pink gold and 150 pieces in platinum, thus making this present watch numbered 125/150 in platinum an incredibly valuable piece coveted by collectors worldwide.

Modern Watches
Panerai, A Rare Special Edition Titanium Cushion-Form Skeletonized Tourbillon Dual Time Zone Wristwatch With AM/PM And 6-Day Power Reserve Indication PAM00578 No 014/150 Lo Scienziato Luminor 1950 Tourbillon GMT Titanio Circa 2016 Est. HK$700,000 – 900,000/ US$90,500 – 116,000

Limited to only 150 examples, this model’s case was constructed layer by layer by means of a fibre optic laser, and eventually merges the successive layers together. It also sports an impressive number of features including a 30-second rotating tourbillon, a power reserve display and a second time zone indication. Combining the highly innovative titanium case, ultralight movement and unconventional tourbillon, PAM578 is easily the most technically awe-inspiring Panerai watch that gives the wearer ultimate aesthetic pleasure.

Sought-After Picks
Rolex, A Stainless Steel Automatic Chronograph Wristwatch With Registers, Ceramic Bezel And Bracelet Ref 116500LN Cosmograph Daytona Circa 2016 Est. HK$95,000 – 140,000/ US$12,300 – 18,100

Introduced in 2016 Baselworld, the highly sought-after Ref 116500LN inherits the charismatic features of its predecessors with the 40mm case and calibre 4130 movement. The new reference carries the evolutionary design with the black ceramic bezel, assimilating the essence of Ref 6263 and white dial with black sub-dial rings.

Women’s Watches
Piaget, A Rare And Limited Edition White Gold And Diamond Set Wristwatch With Enamel Dial Case 936570 No 04/05 Altiplano Rose Circa 2012 Est. HK$220,000 – 320,000/ US$28,400 – 41,300

The dial surface is coated with enamel applied in successive layers, making it possible to achieve pink shades of variable intensity after several times of firing, leading to a lifelike quality of the rose. This particular example is issued in a limited production of five watches.
