MEXICO CITY.- On November 17, Morton Subastas will offer, through its Latin American Sale, an exceptional selection of 238 lots by many of the region’s most renowned modern and contemporary masters. This outstanding auction includes works from prestigious Mexican and international collections.

The modern and contemporary Latin American art market has been experiencing significant growth, according to Deloitte and ArtTactic reports. Recent exhibitions organized by world-class art institutions, such as “Wifredo Lam” (Centre Pompidou, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía and Tate Modern) or “Mexique (1900-1950)” (Grand Palais), show that there is a growing interest in Latin American Art from both, the market and the academic circles.

Morton’s auction will offer a rich selection of still life paintings, one of the most versatile genres in the history of art. The most notable is “Bodegón con guitarra”, dated on 1958 by Fernando Botero, arguably the most important contemporary Latin American artist.

This sale also offers a unique opportunity to access a significant group of self-portraits by artists such as Germán Venegas, Segundo Planes, Juan Cárdenas, Guillermo Meza, Ramón Alva de la Canal, Sylvia Ordóñez, Alejandro Colunga, Gustavo Montoya, Juan Carlos del Valle, José Luis Cuevas, Miguel Covarrubias, Alfredo Castañeda, Francisco Toledo and Edouard Duval-Carrié.

Other highlights include a large polyptich by Pedro Coronel that depicts Prometheus stealing fire from Mount Olympus and giving it to men; an important work by David Alfaro Siqueiros; a marine painting by Joaquín Clausell and a perforated metal sheet from Mathias Goeritz’s “Mensajes” series.

The exhibition prior to the auction will be open to the public from November 13th to November 16th 2016 in the saleroom located at Club Naval Norte, Mexico City.
