LONDON.- Colours inspired by the
Victoria and Albert Museum, the worlds leading museum of art and design will soon be available for the first time as a luxury interior paint range.
A selection of 40 distinctive colours inspired by the V&As unique architecture and decorative interiors, allowing people to bring the palette of the Museum into their own homes, has been created by Master Paintmakers, part of an international paint group.
A first-look at the collection has been released today. The V&A Classic Paint Collection, developed in close collaboration between Master Paintmakers and the V&A, will use the finest pigments to achieve the highest quality paint product available in its category.
Highlights from the 40 strong colour palette will include Reuben Red, a rich Victorian red echoing colours used in fabrics and carpets at the time and named after Reuben Townroe, who worked on architectural decorations for the South Kensington Museum, as the V&A was then known. Owens Teal is a rich sea-green, taken from designer Owen Joness original decorations for the Museums early Indian, Chinese, and Japanese Rooms, considered 2017's on-trend colour for homes.
The architect who designed the V&As main building, Aston Webb, is honoured with rich grey with a hint of warmth - Webb Grey - whilst Trajans Column, a contemporary white colour is based on the monumental plaster cast displayed in the Museums Cast Courts. The 19th century cast replicates the original Roman triumphal column which dates to the 1st century AD.
The V&A Classic Paint Collection is already in use in select galleries at the Museum in South Kensington; a soft white has been named Grand Entrance after the space was painted in V&A Classic Paint.
