GLEN ELLYN, ILL.- Cleve Carney Art Gallery located in the McAninch Arts Center (MAC) at College of DuPage (COD), 425 Fawell Blvd., in partnership with the College of DuPage Foundation, announced three major gifts of artwork in December 2016. The works will ultimately be maintained as part of the nearly 720 works currently in the College of DuPage Permanent Collection.

Dr. Helge Frank and Mrs. Dolores Frank from Downers Grove donated five works with an estimated total value of $85,000. Works of special note include:

• “Vesuvius” by Andy Warhol (1928 – 1987); Unique color screen print, executed in 1985, on Arches 88 paper, signed in pencil lower right, a unique color variant from an edition of fifty-seven trial proofs. Estimated value $35,000.

• "Le reine des éphémères (The Queen of the Éphémères)” by Joan Miró (1893-1983); Color etching and aquatint, executed in 1975, edition 14/50, signed Miró in pencil lower right. Estimated value: $28,000.

• “Imola Three II” from “Circuits” by Frank Stella (1936 - ); Color woodcut, executed in 1984, on TGL handmade paper, signed and dated in pencil, numbered 14/30, published by Tyler Graphics Ltd. Estimated value: $10,000.

Said Dr. Frank, “I decided to donate work to the College of DuPage Permanent Art Collection because DuPage County is where I have spent the last four decades living with my wife Dolores, raising our family and working with the community. During that forty-year period I have had the great pleasure of meeting and building wonderful relationships with staff, faculty and alumni from the College of DuPage. Sharing our collection with COD is one of the ways we are able to give back to the community that has given us, and our family, so much.”

Chicago’s Suzanne Rose donated 11 works with an estimated total value of $46,200. Works include “9 Panels” 1987 by Franz Graf (1954 – ). The estimated value for this graphite on vellum under glass work is $16,000. This represents Rose’s first gift of art to the gallery and COD Permanent Art Collection.

Dr. Arin Stone, daughter of Ron and the late renowned art patron Andree Stone, donated a 66” by 66” acrylic on canvas painting “Twine –Time” (1991) by John T. Phillips (1953 – ). This represents the family’s second donation to the COD Permanent Art Collection in the spirit of Andree Stone’s legacy as an enthusiastic supporter of Chicago artists and art community.

“We’re so grateful to the Franks, Ms. Rose and Dr. Stone for thinking of COD and the Cleve Carney Art Gallery as the recipient of donations from their collections,” said Gallery Director and Curator Justin Witte. “Their generosity adds further depth and breadth to our collection. The public will have an opportunity to view the works when we present a special lobby show of recent acquisitions in summer 2017, at a later date.”
