NEW YORK, NY.- Christies announces the March 2017 season of Contemporary sales spanning Post-War and Contemporary Art, Editions, and PhotographsFebruary 23 through March 7. Collectively over 600 lots are presented across multimedia from renowned artists of the 20th and 21st century with estimates ranging from under $1,000 to $700,000.
The week features three live auctionsContemporary Edition on Wednesday, March 1; Post-War and Contemporary Art on Friday, March 3; and The Collection of Earl and Camilla McGrath, on March 1 and March 3and a curated online sale titled on paper | online, which groups over 100 lots aiming to celebrate an array of artists, past and present, who have turned to paper as their medium of choice. All works will be on view at the Rockefeller Center Galleries from February 23 March 2 with private appointments available for on paper | online through March 6.
Within the sales, there is a unique representation of female artists, including works by Helen Frankenthaler, Diane Arbus, Cindy Sherman, and Yayoi Kusama, which is broken out into a special section, titled Through Her Eyes.

The Contemporary Edition sale on March 1, includes over 200 lots of editions spanning sculpture, lithographs, linocuts, and screenprints, from established artists such as Josef Albers, Francis Bacon, Chuck Close, Willem de Kooning, Alex Katz, Roy Lichtenstein, Bruce Nauman, Frank Stella, Andy Warhol, and Christopher Wool, among others. The sale also features over 70 prints and multiples from the collection of Earl and Camilla McGrath including an exceptional selection of prints by Bruce Nauman.
Post-War and Contemporary Art

The Post-War and Contemporary Art Sale includes over 300 lots, and is highlighted by works by contemporary masters including David Hammons, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Julie Mehretu and David Hockney. The sale is underscored by a curated section of 16 works titled "Through Her Eyes." The grouping shines a spotlight on female artists who have altered the course of art history and pushed the boundaries of their respective medium. "Through Her Eyes" will be led by works from Helen Frankenthaler, Diane Arbus, Cindy Sherman, and Yayoi Kusama. The works represent a wide range of media, including painting, sculpture, photography and drawing.

Earl McGrath, the former head of Rolling Stone Records and gallerist, and Camilla McGrath, an Italian countess, were a social power couple. Counting many of the leading artists and intellectuals amongst their friends, their collection reflects a remarkable life spent alongside the greatest creative forces of the 20th century, with works by close friends including Andy Warhol, Brice Marden, Larry Rivers, Bruce Nauman and Jasper Johns. The collection comprises over 135 examples of Post-War and Contemporary art, and will be offered in both a dedicated eponymous auction on March 3, and within the Contemporary Edition sale on March 1.
