NEW YORK, NY.- Hauser & Wirth announced that writer Randy Kennedy has joined the gallery as Director of Special Projects. Kennedy was a reporter at The New York Times for 23 years, more than half of those writing about the art world. For the Times and its flagship New York Times Magazine, he authored definitive profiles of such artists as Pipilotti Rist, Paul McCarthy, Peter Nadin, and Alec Soth, and covered art institutions and pathbreaking initiatives in cities across the United States, as well as in Europe, Mexico, and South America. Subjects of his articles over the years have included Bruce Nauman, Isa Genzken, Nan Goldin, Kerry James Marshall, Ida Applebroog, Valie Export, John Chamberlain, Rosemarie Trockel, Rashid Johnson, Vito Acconci, Martha Rosler, Carl Andre, Robert Irwin, Pierre Huyghe, Richard Prince, Doug Wheeler, Sally Mann, Adrián Villar Rojas and Ryan Trecartin.

At Hauser & Wirth, Kennedy will helm a number of new editorial, writing, and documentary initiatives for web and print, including relaunching and expanding the gallery’s magazine ‘Volume,’ for which he will serve as Editor-in-Chief.

‘We are thrilled and honored to welcome Randy Kennedy to Hauser & Wirth,’ commented Marc Payot, Partner and Vice President. ‘For some years now, he has been a member of our large, extended art world family through his passionate engagement with art and artists, including many represented by the gallery. His curiosity, talent, depth of knowledge, and uncanny sensitivity toward the visions and intentions of artists, make him uniquely quali ed to lead a host of new editorial and journalistic initiatives in partnership with us.’

Born and raised in rural West Texas, Randy Kennedy lives in Brooklyn with his wife and two children. He is the author of ‘Subwayland: Adventures in the World Beneath New York,’ (2004), based on a weekly column he wrote for several years at The New York Times. His rst novel, ‘Mr. Fool,’ set in Texas in the 1970s, will be published by Simon & Schuster in 2018. Before The New York Times, he worked for American Lawyer magazine.
