PIASA continues to explore Italian post-war creativity with the sale of an Italian Collection of Art & Design
Andy Warhol (1928-1987), Mickey Mouse, 1983. Acrylique sur toile, signé et daté, 83 H 28 x L 35,5 cm. Estimate: €150,000-250,000.

PARIS.- In 2016 PIASA presented nearly a dozen private collections at auction, whose market-fresh provenance provoked lively bidding among French and international collectors. On 1 June 2017 PIASA will offer an ensemble of Design and works of art from an Italian collection that represents the fruit of over a decade of passionate research, reflecting the taste of a family of collectors for all aspects of artistic creativity.

The Collection's Decorative Art spans post-war Italian output from the great architects of reconstruction down to contemporary designers, including works by:

• Gio Ponti, director of Domus magazine, who fitted out luxury hotels and ocean-liners in the 1950s

• Fontana Arte, where Ponti was succeeded as artistic director by Max Ingrand, who brought with him a new, French approach

• The BBPR architectural group, whose public commissions underpinned their success among private clients keen to apply such rationality to a domestic context

• And, of course, the 1980s apostles of Post-Modernism such as Ettore Sottsass, Nanda Vigo, Andrea Branzi and Gaetano Pesce, who created items that have become irrevocably associated with Milan's contribution to the history of Design

The collection's paintings feature the Italian Pop Art of Rome's Mario Schifano and Franco Angeli, which echoed the American obsession with series and popular imagery. Their Roman lifestyle was every bit as extravagant as that in New York, where Andy Warhol was redefining the notion of spectacle at the Factory.
