LONDON.- V-A-C Foundation announced that Francesco Manacorda, currently Artistic Director at Tate Liverpool, will join the V-A-C team as Artistic Director from September 2017.
Francesco Manacorda said: I have followed closely the developments of V-A-C Foundation since it was established in 2009 and have been a huge admirer of their risk-taking, rigorous and experimental approach. I am delighted to join the team in a moment of great expansion in Moscow and Venice that will cement V-A-Cs international reach and present incredible opportunities for artists from all over the world.
Teresa Iarocci Mavica, Director, V-A-C said: Francesco will come to Moscow at a pivotal moment for the foundation, as we launch our Venetian space this year and look towards the opening of GES-2, our Moscow home, in 2019. Francesco has always showed a liking for unorthodox challenges, receiving great recognition for his curatorial work and leadership. I am incredibly excited to have him join us at this construction stage to work together on building a truly innovative artistic institutional model, one that, we hope, keeps pushing us to accept ever-greater challenges.
Andrea Nixon, Executive Director, Tate Liverpool said: Francesco has made a huge impact in his time at Tate Liverpool and helped set the gallerys vision for putting learning with our audiences at the heart of what we do. Under his leadership the gallery has developed a variety of deep partnerships with our local communities, shown a new series of ambitious and popular displays drawn from Tates Collection, and co-curated a variety of exhibitions and projects with international and local partners. In 2016/17 Tate Liverpool reached its highest audience since 2008, a testament to Francescos approach to programme and audiences; we will miss him enormously and wish him the very best in this exciting new chapter in his career.
