NEW YORK, NY.- Lisa Phillips, Toby Devan Lewis Director, and Massimiliano Gioni, Edlis Neeson Artistic Director, announced today that Margot Norton has been named Curator at the New Museum.

Norton joined the Museum in 2011 as Assistant Curator, and in the past six years has worked on a number of remarkable exhibitions, curating and co-curating presentations by Judith Bernstein, Pia Camil, Sarah Charlesworth, Roberto Cuoghi, Ragnar Kjartansson, Chris Ofili, Goshka Macuga, Laure Prouvost, Pipilotti Rist, Anri Sala, and Erika Vogt. She was named Associate Curator in 2015. Most recently, Norton curated the exhibition “Kaari Upson: Good thing you are not alone,” which is on view through September 10, 2017.

As a key member of the New Museum curatorial team, Norton has helped shape the Museum’s exhibition program and has played an important role in the organization, research, and execution of ambitious group exhibitions including “The Keeper,” “Here and Elsewhere,” and “NYC 1993: Experimental Jet Set, Trash and No Star.”

“With her constant enthusiasm and precision, Norton has supervised a range of complex curatorial projects, following them through in every detail, from vision to nail,” said Gioni.

Before joining the New Museum, Norton was a curatorial assistant at the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. She has lectured and published on contemporary art and holds a MA in Curatorial Studies from Columbia University, New York.
