NEW YORK, NY.- The Art Dealers Association of America today announced that its Board of Directors has confirmed four new member galleries: Andrew Kreps Gallery (New York), Di Donna Galleries (New York), Luxembourg & Dayan (New York and London), and McClain Gallery (Houston). They join the nation’s leading non-profit organization of fine art dealers, which encompasses 176 members from 25 cities in the U.S., representing thousands of established and emerging artists internationally.
“We are delighted and proud to welcome these four renowned galleries as new members of the ADAA,” said Adam Sheffer, President of the ADAA and Cheim & Read Partner and Sales Director. “Through the wide range of artists and estates with which they collaborate, their diverse specialties, and vital contributions to art historical scholarship, each of these galleries will make important additions to our Association. These four galleries advance the unique expertise and best practices that the ADAA represents and upholds.”
To ensure members have an established reputation of honesty, integrity, and professionalism, new candidates are nominated by an ADAA member, with three additional letters of support by members. Candidates must have been in business for at least five years and possess a proven record of accomplishment of substantial contributions to the art community, by offering works of high aesthetic quality, presenting major exhibitions, producing scholarly publications, and actively working with museums. Through a year-long application process, which includes candidate interviews by a selection committee composed of ADAA member dealers, the committee determines eligibility and votes on nominees, with final approval by the Board of Directors and the entire membership.
The four new ADAA member galleries have built expertise across artistic periods, genres, and media and have made critical contributions to the international cultural community and market. Founded in 1996, Andrew Kreps Gallery is known for its work with emerging international artists, often providing a platform for their debut solo exhibitions in the United States. Ricci Albenda, Andrea Bowers, Roe Ethridge, Goshka Macuga, Hito Steyerl, and Cheyney Thompson are among the artists represented by the gallery, who work across a range of media. “I’ve been a longtime admirer of the ADAA, and the work it does with and for galleries, institutions and artists. It feels very much long overdue for my gallery, and I’m honored to be a part of it. With the ways the art world is developing, collaboration between galleries seems more critical than ever,” said founder Andrew Kreps.
Founded in 2010, Di Donna Galleries deals largely in the secondary market and specializes in works by Surrealist, modern, and post-war European and American artists, such as Alexander Calder, Salvador Dalí, Max Ernst, Pablo Picasso, and Andy Warhol. The gallery’s exhibition program provides insight on the evolution of American and European modern and post-war art. “We are honored to be part of this network that includes some of the world’s most respected galleries,” said founder Emmanuel Di Donna. “We look forward to maintaining the ADAA’s high scholarly and ethical standards through our own programming, and to supporting ADAA’s broader mission of helping to shape arts policies in this country.”
With spaces in both New York and London, Luxembourg & Dayan focuses on works by significant post-war European artists Lucio Fontana, Yves Klein, and Cy Twombly, as well as a range of the world’s leading contemporary artists, including Alex Da Corte, Urs Fischer, and Jeff Koons. With major thematic exhibitions, the gallery frequently re-examines the work of influential post-war artists, and places contemporary art and historical works in dialogue. “We are so proud to join an esteemed organization with the rich history of the ADAA and look forward to working collaboratively with the organization and our peer members,” said founders Amalia Dayan and Daniella Luxembourg.
Operating for nearly four decades in Houston, Texas, McClain Gallery represents works by important figures of modern and contemporary art while also supporting younger generations of artists, particularly those based in Texas. In addition to mounting focused monographic presentations of the pillars of 20th-century art such as Peter Halley, Donald Baechler, Andy Warhol, Robert Motherwell, and Julian Schnabel, the gallery explores current themes in contemporary art through thematic exhibitions that place living artists in the historic context of their predecessors. “It is a distinct honor to be considered a colleague of so many esteemed dealers whom I admire and respect greatly.
