ISTANBUL.- Elgiz Museum announces the 5th anniversary of the Terrace Exhibitions with a unique selection of works, titled Homage to Masters of Sculpture.
Since 2012, the terrace exhibitions hosted 186 artists within an open-air space of 1500 meters square, encompassing the mission of supporting and motivating young artists.
The Terrace Exhibitions have been held by the Elgiz Museum to improve and increase the visibility of sculpture as an art form, which needs strong support in terms of both space and production. The exhibition series enables and strengthens the communication between sculptors and the art enthusiasts.
In the 9th Terrace exhibit, 14 artists have been selected by the museums Sculpture Advisory Board comprised of Seyhun Topuz, Rahmi Aksungur, Nilüfer Ergin, Haşim Nur Gürel ve Can Elgiz. The Board evaluated the proposals from artists who participated in the previous terrace shows. Grey and Beige Portfolio
The Elgiz Museum also salutes the summer with a selection of 18 newly displayed works from the collection, focusing on sculpture works and installations. On view at the same time with the annual Terrace exhibition, this unique assembly of works aim to underline the turbulent times we are in with the beige contours of Kemal Onsoys renown oil paintings to this years much celebrated artist Erwin Wurms aluminum sculpture disguised in the form of a human-sculpture; alongside Stephan Balkenhols gigantic wood-carved Big Man sculpture, silently greeting the deconstructed Erard Piano by H. N. Gurel, juxtaposed by a view from Xavier Veilhans almost-musical blurry image situated next to Alex Pragers stunning photograph with no path to follow.
The notion of uncertainty and flux is evaluated through Chestertons depiction of the color grey.
