NEW YORK, NY.- Bidsquare welcomes The Coeur d'Alene Art Auction back for its annual Western and American Art auction. The only place to bid online for the sale is exclusively on Bidsquare. Coeur d'Alene joins Copley Fine Art Auctions this month on Bidsquare, both houses, along with many others, bring rare and fresh to market works to the auction block. Highlights include Western and American fine art, rare and important decoys, decorative art and more.
The Coeur dAlene Art Auction is known for selling the highest quality Western paintings and sculpture from historical and contemporary artists, and this years sale will be no exception. Long known as the market leader for Western art, the auction features over 20 works by artist Charles M. Russell. Headlining the auction is Russell's Approach of the White Men estimated at $1,500,000-2,000,000. The painting was formerly in the collection of the Amon Carter Museum and comes from a private collector who has had the work for the last two decades.
Further high points of The Coeur d'Alene Art Auction's sale include works by William R. Leigh and Thomas Moran. William R. Leigh's A Close Call features all the high-action Leigh was known for and, being fresh to the market, is expected to bring $800,000-1,200,000. Another headliner of the sale, a masterful oil by Thomas Moran comes fresh out of a private collection. The Rio Virgin, Southern Utah will be offered at $600,000-900,000.
Copley Fine Art Auctions continues the list of fine art highlights with Arthur Burdett Frost, Supper in Camp. Considered one of the great illustrators of the Golden Age of American Illustration, Frost illustrated more than ninety books and produced thousands of illustrations for Harpers Weekly, Scribners, and Life magazines. Frosts illustrative work chronicles the mood and details of the daily life of farmers, hunters, and fishermen, as well as barnyards and pastoral motifs. The exceptional narrative composition, tremendous draftmanship, and extensive detail of this major Frost place it among the artist's pinnacle works.
For decoy connoisseurs, Copley Fine Art Auction brings a Preening Goldeneye by Drake A. Elmer Crowell to auction July 28. This bird was created during the nexus in Crowells career when he was transitioning from working decoys to decorative carvings. The subtleties of the construction, wide body, and carving technique, along with paint application, place this among the earliest of Crowells mantle carvings.
This is one of three preening goldeneye drakes known to have been made by Crowell. The lot has descended in the Nye family for generations and this marks the first time it has ever been offered for sale.
Cowan's Auctions rounds out our auction highlights with an exceptional bronze in its upcoming Fine and Decorative Art auction July 29. Romanian artist Demétre Chiparus' quintessential French Art Deco bronze, Friends Forever has a Paris foundry mark and stands 25 inches high, the nearly symmetrical Art Deco design depicts a woman flanked by dogs.
