SEATTLE, WA.- The Frye Art Museum announced the appointment of Amanda Donnan as Curator, effective July 24, 2017. Donnan comes to the Frye from Seattle University, where she has served as Curator of University Galleries, in addition to holding a teaching appointment in the Department of Art + Art History, since March of 2016.

“We are thrilled to welcome Amanda to the Frye,” said Director/CEO Joseph Rosa. “I am greatly impressed with her proven track record of working on both a regional and international scale. She brings a high caliber of thoughtfulness and a true commitment to working with artists in respectful and creative collaboration. I look forward to the dynamism and vision she will contribute to the Museum and Seattle’s greater cultural community.”

"The Frye occupies a special place in the art ecology of Seattle," said Donnan. "It has become one of the Northwest's premiere venues for contemporary art, both local and global. At the same time, the Museum's roots in Charles and Emma Frye's Founding Collection give it a specificity that is unique among American institutions, and an important historical aspect. I am honored to be part of this distinctive legacy and delighted to be joining an outstanding staff in shaping its future."

Prior to her tenure at Seattle University, Donnan spent six years at Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh, PA. As Assistant Curator of Contemporary Art, she contributed to the organization of the 2013 Carnegie International, one of the world’s preeminent surveys of contemporary art, and codirected an archival initiative of the Museum's Time-Based Media collection. Other exhibitions organized at the Carnegie include “Jacqueline Humphries,” “Duncan Campbell,” and "Corey Escoto: Sleight of Hand.” Donnan holds a master's degree in Modern and Contemporary Art History, Theory, and Criticism from SUNY Stony Brook, and was previously Production Coordinator at Art21 in New York.
