Bonhams to offer an impressive array of 275 watches and wristwatches

LONDON.- Bonhams will offer an impressive array of 275 watches and wristwatches at its sale on 21 November at its Knightsbridge saleroom. The auction is traditionally broad, with lots ranging from the elegant Johnson, Grays Inn Passage. Gold, enamel and seed pearl set key wind open face pocket watch (£1,500-2,000) to the imposing Tag Heuer black DLC coated stainless steel and titanium automatic calendar chronograph wristwatch (£1,500-2,000). The sale also includes the impressive and expertly-curated Ken Kessler collection.

Pocket watches
A large range of exquisitely crafted, ornate pocket watches will be offered, including several automatons. The Thomas Gray, Sackville Street fine gold key wind open face pocket watch is set with diamonds, seed pearl and electric blue enamel (£2,500-3,500) is a beautiful example of early English watchmaking, and the silver key wind open face automaton pocket watch depicting the Battle of Arcola (£800-1,200) is another eye-catching piece, with its soldiers that march across its face in celebration of Napoleon Bonaparte’s victory.

Ken Kessler collection
Bonhams sale will include the impressive collection of Ken Kessler, a celebrated watch collector and widely-respected journalist on the topic. Highlights of the 14-lot collection includes several good examples of military issue wristwatches by houses such as Omega, Timor and Smiths. The military issue stainless steel manual wind wristwatch from Omega is expected to achieve £1,500-2,000.

Motoring watches
A large range of imposing and striking pieces inspired by the world of motoring will also feature in the sale. The Tag Heuer Grand Carrera Calibre 36 is a black DLC coated stainless steel automatic calendar chronograph wristwatch with caliper scale reading (£1,500-2,000). From Chopard, there is an elegant Grand Prix de Monaco Historique stainless steel automatic calendar chronograph wristwatch (£1,500-2,000) and from Tag Heuer, the SLR Calibre S for Mercedes Benz will cross the rostrum with an estimate of £800-1,200.

Other highlights include:

• Omega Seamaster. A stainless steel military style automatic Seamaster (£4,000-6,000)

• Heuer Autavia. A stainless steel automatic calendar chronograph wristwatch (£3,000-4,000)

• Patek Phliippe. An 18K white gold automatic bracelet watch (£2,800-3,200)

• Corum Golden Bridge. An unusual 18K gold manual wind semi-skeletonised straight line wristwatch (£3,000-4,000)
