NEW YORK, NY.- Christies New York various owner Books & Manuscripts sale realizes $5,218,500, with an additional sale to follow on December 7, 2017. The auction witnessed active participation across all sales channelsin-room, phone bidding, and online via Christies LIVE with global bidding from registrants across 26 countries and 5 continents.
The top lots of the sale were Brigham Young's copy of the 1823 Stone-engraved Declaration of Independence, which sold for $432,500; and Albert Einsteins telescope, which sold for $432,500; setting a world auction record for any scientific object owned by Einstein offered at auction.
Strong results were achieved for the dedicated single-owner selection titled The Yorktown Campaign and the Franco-American Alliance: The Papers of the Marquis de Chastellux, which was 100% sold, collectively totaling $1,247,875 for the 21 lots.
Another top lot was the 1978 Nobel Prize Medal in Physiology or Medicine awarded to Daniel Nathans "for the discovery of restriction enzymes and their application to problems of molecular genetics," selling for $372,500, with proceeds pledged to the Johns Hopkins Medical School.
