A large Chinese 19th century Qing dynasty hardwood five clawed dragon hat chest (lot 130, estimate €12,000-15,000).



NICE.- On December 7, 2017, Millon-Rivera auction house will hold their inaugural sale, concentrating on Asian art and antiquities at their new location in Nice, France. The recently developed branch is part of the larger conglomerate of Millon auction houses, located in Paris. The sale will feature over 253 selected lots. A few of the highlighted pieces include:

• An impressive twelve etchings albums of the Qianlong emperor’s Military Campain of Taiwan. These hetching were engraved from original paintings commissioned by imperial decret of Qianlong to four European artists installed in his court: Giuseppe CASTIGLIONE 1688-1766, Jean-Denis ATTIRET 1702-1768, Ignatius SICHELBARTH 1708-1780 et Damascène SALLUSTI. (lot 119, estimate €30,000-50,000)

• An exeptional Zitan Imperial Brush pot (lot 129, estimate is €40,000-60,000) with it’s pendant in the Palace Museum Collection in Beijing.

• A large Chinese 19th century Qing dynasty hardwood five clawed dragon hat chest (lot 130, estimate €12,000-15,000)

• A Sino-Tibetan 18th Qing dynasty semi-precious stone inlaid gilt bronze figure of Amitayus Buddha (lot 131, estimate €12,000-15,000).

This Auction is a result of collaborative efforts between Alexandre Millon, Mr. Olivier Leydét and Asian art expert Jean Gauchet. Millon is one of the most influential auctioneers in France today. His empire is both nationally and internationally recognized and his presence extends from Belgium and France and into Switzerland.

Mr. Gauchet is a leading Asian art expert whose cabinet is located in Nice. Mr. Gauchet’s expertise has gained him quite a reputation in Europe as well as in Hong Kong and China. He has worked and consigned pieces with numerous auction houses including: Poly, Sotheby’s, Bonham’s, Christie’s and has consulted for Millon, their partner Asium-Auction in Paris, Var-Enchères in St Raphael and is often solicited for opinion on pieces. Well versed in many facets of Asian art, Mr. Gauchet also frequents art fairs and assists with private collection sales and acquisitions.

The inspiration for the first sale is not only the venue but also the vast and diverse collection of Asian antiquities that have been sourced from all over Europe, mainly from private homes and collections. Millon-Riviera and the art community are very excited for the upcoming sale and are optimistic about the quality and caliber of the catalog.

The auction will take place on December 7th 2017 at 1pm. Viewings are open to the public Monday –Wednesday, December 4-6th from 10:00 am – 7:00 pm.

Also featured is a special Expertise press conference the night before the auction. Guests will enjoy a special introduction to the auction house, and more generally Chinese art. Expert Jean Gauchet will host the conference Wednesday, December 6th at 6:00pm
