BROOKLYN, NY.- Janet Borden, Inc. announces Amusement Park by Ddavid Brandon Geeting. The exhibition will run from 1 February – 15 March 2018. This is Mr. Geeting's first solo exhibition with the gallery.

Amusement Park by David Brandon Geeting is a collection of edgy portraits, outrageous still lifes and cryptic documentary shots. The accompanying monograph was assembled by publisher Lodret Vandret.

The work is not actually about an amusement park but rather about their allure along with decrepitude and that is endemic in these places. Geeting juxtaposes the fun glamour of bright shiny objects with a colorful decay that denotes the passing of time. “At first glance an amusement park looks really fun. But after you spend some time in one, you realize it’s actually a bit nightmarish and everything’s falling apart.”

His subject matter is treated with the same joyful irreverence, somewhere in between a cult object and a captivating parody. In fact some of the most striking images in Amusement Park are the still lifes, which seem to strain at the notion of stillness. Again, as Geeting claims, “It’s considered but it’s chaotic at the same time.” This is contemporary photography in its newest direction. It has the casual immediacy of Instagram and Snapchat, but the physical objects are produced with skill and care.

David Brandon Geeting is a New York-based photographer who focuses on bringing out compelling details in his subjects with the use of harsh light. His subjects vary from the everyday to the extraordinary. After studying at New York’s School of Visual Arts, Geeting claims that he began chronicling anything and everything around him. Building upon this same philosophy, Geeting’s work also spans the worlds of fashion and portraiture – while consistently maintaining the derisive sense of humor and playfulness that makes his work unique.
