PORTO.- Marta Moreira de Almeida (Porto, 1968) has been appointed as Deputy Director of the
Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art, responsible for the area of Exhibitions.
The museums director, João Ribas, commented: Marta has been working in Serralves for over 25 years and has worked directly with all the previous Museum Directors. This gives her in-depth knowledge of the institution and the team at Serralves. Over the years she has demonstrated outstanding commitment, creativity, an excellent relationship with artists, and a tremendous capacity to implement ambitious projects. She will undoubtedly make a very important contribution to our future plans for the Museum.
With a B.A. Hons degree in History of Art from the University of Porto, Marta Moreira de Almeida has worked as a curator for the Serralves Foundations Fine Arts Service since 1991, and was appointed coordinator of this service in 1995. In 1999 she coordinated the production and assembly of the Serralves Museums inaugural exhibition, Circa 1968.
She worked as a lecturer in the discipline of Composition Studies, of the B.A. Hons course in Sound and Image of the Universidade Católica, Porto (1999 and 2000) and as lecturer in the discipline, "Exhibitions Programming and Organization" in the Post- Graduate course in Contemporary Art of the School of Arts, of the Universidade Católica, Porto (2007).
She has assisted in the preparation of several architectural projects, in charge of the area of Museology, that were coordinated by the studios of the architects, Isabel Furtado and João Pedro Serôdio, Luís Tavares Pereira, João Mendes Ribeiro / Francisco Vieira de Campos and Cristina Guedes.
Her many curatorial projects include: Portuguese Art from the 1970s to the 1990s in the Serralves Foundations Collection (itinerant exhibition, 1998/99); In the Landscape (itinerant exhibition, 2002/03); the site-specific and time-specific work by Maria Nordman in Serralves Park, with Vicente Todolí (2001); A place in the world: Pedro Cabrita Reis, in the Azorean Institute of Culture, Angra do Heroísmo (2002); 6 = 0 Homeostética in Serralves Museum (2004); Maria Nordman in Serralves Museum (2007); presentation of the project Political Advertisement VII by Antoni Muntadas and Marshall Reese in Serralves Museum (2008); Private Collections, Pedro Cabrita Reis, at the Palácio da Galeria in Tavira (2009); Jorge Martins: The Substance of Time, in Serralves Museum (2013); Helena Almeida: my work is my body, my body is my work, in Serralves Museum, with João Ribas (2015), which was then shown in the Jeu de Paume, Paris, WIELS, Brussels (2016), and IVAM, Valencia (2017).
In addition to this appointment of Marta Moreira de Almeida, Serralves Museums team will soon be further reinforced through the hiring of another Deputy Director / Senior Curator, in charge of the areas of Programming and the Serralves Collection of Contemporary Art.
