STOCKHOLM.- The world tour of Hilma af Klint’s works starts at Pinacoteca in São Paulo, where the exhibition will be curated by the Pinacoteca’s director, Jochen Volz, and Daniel Birnbaum from Moderna Museet. It then goes on to the Salomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York. The Hilma af Klint Foundation and Moderna Museet have also signed a long-term cooperation agreement, ensuring that Hilma af Klint’s works can be shown continuously at the Museum from now on.

In 2018, Hilma af Klint will cross the Atlantic to be presented in extensive solo exhibitions at leading museums. On 3 March, the major retrospective Hilma af Klint: Mundos Possíveis (Hilma af Klint: Possible Worlds) opens at the Pinacoteca in São Paulo, Brazil. The exhibition is curated by the museum’s director, Jochen Volz, and Daniel Birnbaum, director of Moderna Museet and adjunct board member of the Hilma af Klint Foundation. This is the first time the artist is shown in Latin America.

On 12 October, 2018, a major retrospective opens at the Salomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, organised by the senior curator Tracey Bashkoff, in association with the Hilma af Klint Foundation. This will be the most comprehensive presentation of Hilma af Klint’s oeuvre in a North American art gallery to date.

“I’m extremely grateful for this close collaboration with Tracey Bashkoff. Ever since I embarked on the project with Hilma af Klint’s art, and began thinking of potential places for showing her works, it was clear that Frank Lloyd Wright’s building is the ideal place in the USA. Sometimes, I even imagine that he designed it as a temple for her art,” says Daniel Birnbaum, director of Moderna Museet and adjunct board member of the Hilma af Klint Foundation mandated by the Foundation to liaise with museums internationally on its behalf.

To ensure that Hilma af Klint’s oeuvre is shown continuously also in Sweden, and that her works are preserved in a professional manner, the Hilma af Klint Foundation and Moderna Museet have entered a cooperation agreement. In future, the Museum will feature Hilma af Klint’s works in large and small presentations, in dialogue with works by other artists in the collection. Ten works by Hilma af Klint are currently shown alongside a monumental abstract painting by Ann Edholm, which is presented for the first time at the Museum.

“The Foundation welcomes this cooperation agreement with Moderna Museet, since it is a concrete manifestation of the excellent collaboration between our two organisations. Moreover, the agreement will ensure that the Foundation will receive professional support for its activities on several levels. Finally, it entails that Hilma af Klint’s works will be featured continuously at Moderna Museet,” says Johan af Klint from the Hilma af Klint Foundation.
