DALLAS, TX.- Heritage Auctions has announced that Chris Cavalier is joining its San Francisco office as a Sports Consignment Director.

“Chris brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in sports collecting,” Heritage Auctions Sports Auctions Director Chris Ivy said. “He has extensive experience at many levels of sports collecting, which will offer our consignors and collectors an added level of comfort and expertise. Having him in our San Francisco office will increase our presence on the West Coast and will only strengthen our status as the world’s largest sports auctioneer.”

Prior to his arrival at Heritage Auctions, Cavalier spent eight years in the sports auction business. In addition, he created the website GameUsedUniverse.com in 2005, which quickly became the largest and most significant Internet community of collectors and dealers of game-used sports memorabilia.

“I started GameUsedUniverse to help educate collectors,” Cavalier said. “I thought it would be beneficial to the collecting community, given the large amount of suspect and fraudulent game-used memorabilia that was circulating in the hobby at the time.”

Before focusing on the sports memorabilia industry in 2001, the magna cum laude Georgetown University alumnus worked in the business world for eight years, including with Fortune 500 companies Procter & Gamble and Clorox. It was while working at Procter & Gamble in Cincinnati that Cavalier, a former high school athlete, began gaining exposure to the memorabilia industry, which he called “a natural extension of my passion” for sports.

“Chris will be a tremendous addition for us,” Ivy said. “He is a knowledgeable professional with a proven track record who will be an immediate asset to the Sports department at Heritage Auctions.”
