LOS ANGELES, CA.- Haleh Mashian, artist and gallery owner announced today the opening of a new Los Angeles curatorial commercial space, Mash Gallery, on August 25, 2018. Mash Gallery is a 2,000 square foot gallery building at 1325 Palmetto St., Los Angeles, CA 90013 in the Downtown Los Angeles Arts District. Mash Gallery opened with “Incarnadine,” a group show curated by Mat Gleason.

Mash Gallery will accommodate independent curators to manifest their vision and a venue designed to create intimate conversations between those curators, artists, and the Los Angeles art audience. Mash Gallery will place the commercial programming into the hands of an ever-changing rotation of curated shows. This model of scheduling and presenting art installations mimics museum and nonprofit art spaces, it is new territory for commercial art space. Instead of representing individual artists, Mash Gallery will a show a robust schedule of compelling contemporary art shows.

Haleh Mashian, owner of Mash Gallery, is an expressionist painter who works in a variety of mediums. “Mash Gallery will be fresh,” says Mashian, “There will be programming and synergy with fashion, and performance. Curating is about community, and we welcome artists and their networks to the gallery.” Mashian’s goal is to build a place of creativity and connection for emerging and established artists, and more importantly, understands the need to bring the audience along.

While a rotating series of curated shows is the norm for the non-profit and institutional sectors of the art world, this is a fresh approach for a mid-size gallery. Mashian explains, “With every artist reaching buyers on Instagram, giving the space to the vision of many curators makes more sense than representing the next generation of artists who already have their own avenues of commerce.”
