Using Antique Oriental Rugs as the Centerpiece for a Speciality Room: Billiards, Music and Home Theaters
The open, expansive plan of a gracious living room is completed by the inclusion of two exceptional antique Ferahan Sarouk carpets. The duo’s magnetic artistry unites the spacious entertaining area into a cohesive series of intensely inviting, human scaled spaces.

Jan David Winitz, founder/president of Claremont Rug Company, often provides clients with antique Oriental rugs that serve as centerpieces for speciality rooms such as those devoted to billiards and music or home theaters. "What I look for in rugs for a speciality room are pieces that offer the appropriate ambiance for the particular space, be it where they will spend time enjoying a game of billiards, listening to music or watching videos."

Red Billiard Table

Here, this stunning billiard room is made more memorable by the splendor of the High Collectible Persian Laver Kirman Court carpet. The dexterous expression of sophisticated botanical motifs and brilliant technical mastery will be welcome company over many enjoyable afternoons. Its notably open, unadorned parchment reserve seems to subtly reference the billiard surface, oak paneling and sandstone tile, redoubling the sense of expansiveness and calm. The harmonious burgundy and parchment hues of the carpet create impart a special warmth and personality.

Green Billiard Table

This billiard room in a massive lakeside family compound in the High Sierras centers this elegantly wood-paneled expanse from floor to ceiling. The naturally-dyed jewel tones, such as this rare 19th century Bakhtiari oversize rug with its wide spectrum of brilliant rose and coral reds, fern and spruce greens, walnut browns and saffron golds are highlights. The rug's structured "Garden Compartment" design echoes the pattern of the woodwork and presents a repeated, large scale, botanical motif that evokes the grand natural landscape in which this estate is situated.

Music Room

The splendor of this 120-year-old Persian room size rug undoubtedly adds to the enjoyment of music played in this distinctive setting while aiding the fidelity of the sound.

Media Room

Framed by expansive wood floors, a suite of one-of-a-kind antique Persian rugs and carpets adds artistic character to this home theater. In the office in the foreground is a turn-of-the-20th century Persian Heriz carpet with a singular overscale garden design. In the media room in the background is a refined 19th century Persian Senneh rug (right) and highly original Karaja Persian village rug in front of the theater seating (left.).
