LUXEMBOURG.- Jointly organized by
Mudam Luxembourg Musée d'Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean and the City of Luxembourg, Design City LX Festival comes to the capital once again, from 19 October to 18 November, 2018. On the occasion of this 5th edition of the festival, a series of exhibitions, urban interventions, colloquium and meetings, presented in collaboration with the cultural institutions of the City of Luxembourg, are on public display on the theme of Me craft You industry We design.
Craft or industry? Tradition or modernity? In 2018, Design City LX Festival explores design as a common language capable of generating a dialogue between opposites. The festival takes place throughout the city, especially in Kirchberg, to show citizens the different facets of the increased reality of "new" functions that industry and craft are providing.
For this 5th edition of the event, Studio Roosegaarde was invited to bring the stylish modern tunnel at the Musée Dräi Eechelen (M3E) that runs beneath Park Dräi Eechelen to light with its poetic illuminated signage, whilst Max Steffen has installed a series of timeless Made in Luxembourg public benches on Place du Théâtre. Meanwhile, designer Giacomo Piovan and the team at agency Sensity, meanwhile, are promoting mobility with the Moving m2 - space impact of people in motion project, encouraging public transport users to view the public space they use every time they travel from an alternative perspective. Laurent Boijeot, Sébastien Renauld and Mélanie Heresbach of the boijeot.renauld and 2m26 collective, for their part, are taking up residence in the city, making their way from Kirchberg across to the city centre carrying a bed, a table, chairs and a suitcase. This slow-moving, iconoclastic and nomadic installation is designed to create a connection and redefine the public sphere. Luxembourg Casino Forum dart contemporain is also shining new light on the city in the form of a subjective atlas developed by Annelys de Vet, whilst the Centre Culturel Portugais Camões is offering an insight into the emerging Portuguese design scene (exhibition curated by Guilherme Braga da Cruz). Galerie Simoncini joined forces with the Camera di Commercio Italo Lussemburghese to host Lorenzo Palmeris Design Orchestra exhibition curated by Marco Sammicheli and showcasing the Italian designer and musicians prolific work. Last but not least, a retrospective exhibition of the work of French designer and artist Florence Doléac, who has been challenging the boundaries between industry, art and craftsmanship for the past 25 years, is being held at Cercle Cité, showcasing some of her one-of-a-kind pieces and the regressive humour that infiltrates them.
Mudam Luxembourg is hosting the #Me craft #You industry #We design symposium, of which designer, researcher and speaker Sophie Krier and designer and speaker Erik Wong have been entrusted with the content, once the festival begins. With guests including designers Formafantasma, Florence Doléac, Annelys de Vet, François Jegou, Jan Glas, Alexandre Humbert and Nicolas Verschaeve, and curators Giovanna Massoni and Alice Stori Liechtenstein and neuropsychologist Anne-Marie Schuller of the University of Luxembourg on board, this day of speculative discussion and interaction is intended to create ties between craftsmanship, industry and application (design).
As headquarters of Design City LX Festival, in addition to providing information about the programme including exhibitions and conferences, de Gudde Wëllen café hosts an exhibition, as well as an ad hoc installation in Rue du St. Esprit, and organises a series of workshops on Sundays along with the A Beer with ... meetings, which take place every Tuesday for the duration of the festival.

An unmissable self-guided tour of the citys designer establishments will be spread across four dates, giving the public an opportunity to take a peek behind the scenes of these creative showcases, district by district, every Friday during the festival from 2pm to 8pm.
The Mudam Boutique is marking the occasion by launching an exclusive collaboration with WallpaperSTORE*, which promotes Luxembourgish design on its digital platform, whilst the museum shop is showcasing a brand-new selection of items, accessories and books.
