PARIS.- Last week, the
Outsider Art Fair celebrated the 6th Anniversary of its edition in Paris.
A VIP Early Access Preview was held at the fair's new location, Atelier Richelieu, 60 Rue de Richelieu, with a strong turnout that included an array of enthusiasts from the art, culture, fashion, and entertainment milieu including: Cyril Aouizerate, Sophie Calle, Michael Cohen, Martine Courtault, Matali Crasset, Bruno Decharme, Stéphanie des Horst, Philippe di Méo, Anne Marie Dubois, Michèle Lamy, Alain Le Henry, Camille Miceli, Marika Moisseeff, Sandra Mulliez, Marc-Olivier Wahler, Diane Pernet, Sydney Picasso and Sandrine Quétie, among others.
Day one of the Paris Outsider Art Fair was by far one of the best starts to any art fair I have participated in. By the close of the day, I had placed over half of the works in my booth and met many new collectors, which is the biggest hope for any fair, in my opinion, said Scott Ogden, founder of SHRINE gallery, who presented a solo both of graphite drawings by A.A.C. Susini. "I sold about ten of Tomasz Machcínskis self-portraits during the vernissage; it was a great chance to meet new collectors and introduce the work to them, said first-time exhibitor Malgorzata Szaefer of TAK Gallery.
"The opening attendance was impressive and quite steady. Most folks were very engaged with the art," said Shari Cavin, co-founder of Cavin-Morris Gallery, who sold two masterpieces by Anna Zemankova, several works on paper by JB Murray, and two works by 1920s spiritist Frantisek Jaroslav Pecka the first exposure of the artist's work in Europe. Other highlights include Galerie du Marché, who sold s works within the first few hours of the fair, including a major work by Aloïse Corbaz.
New this year is the fair's collaboration with Lamyland, the brainchild of Michèle Lamy. Lamyland is the umbrella term for Lamys happenings which includes installation, performance and urban intervention aiming to connect art and life. In collaboration with the fair, Lamyland will respond to the history of marginalization of art brut artists through a series of performances by Paul Kooiker and David Hoyle throughout the duration of the fair. Michèles passion to bring art and life together is unwavering, and we hope that this collaboration with Lamyland will further a public dialogue surrounding these issues of inclusivity, said fair Director, Becca Hoffman.
We are grateful for Paris warm embrace and very pleased that Hotel Drouot is hosting OAF Talks again. Art Absolument has generously offered its second annual prize for outsider art, which awards 10,000 to two living artists, said Andrew Edlin, CEO of Wide Open Arts. Each year the excitement surrounding the fair has grown, and the credit belongs to our dealers who bring their passion and expertise along with magnificent artworks.
