NEW YORK, NY.- Christie’s will present three contemporary sales this February in New York, Contemporary Edition on 27 February, Post-War to Present on 28 February, and the online only sale, On Paper, which will run 20 - 26 February. Combined, the sales will encompass 500 lots, which span from emerging artists to established masters with estimates ranging from $700 to $1,000,000. The works will be on view and open to the public in Christie’s New York galleries beginning 23 February though 28 February. Coinciding with the Contemporary Edition Sale, is the online-only auction Matisse on Paper: Prints and Drawings from the Estate of Jacquelyn Miller Matisse running 21 February through 1 March.

The Contemporary Edition auction features over 150 lots from classic Post-War prints by artists such as Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol, to emerging contemporary editions by Ryan McGinness and Christopher Wool. Highlights in the sale include a lithograph by Edward Ruscha entitled Cold Beer Beautiful Girls, 2009 ($40,000-60,000), Joan Mitchell’s Flower I, 1981 ($6,000-8,000), Julie Mehretu’s Entropia (review) from ($15,000-25,000) 2004. On view with the Contemporary Edition auction will be prints and drawings fresh to the market from the estate of Jacquelyn Miller Matisse. Highlights include Tête, 1936 ($30,000-50,000) and Orientale à la croix trifoliée, 1929 ($20,000-30,000). At Mme. Matisse’s request, the majority of her estate will benefit charitable causes including The Alzheimer’s Research Institute, The National Foundation for Autism Research, Société Française du Cancer and The Art Institute of Chicago.

Christie’s Post-War to Present auction in New York features 233 lots encompassing the work of rising stars and blue chip artists, with highlights such as Cecily Brown’s The Park in the Dark, 2012 ($400,000-600,000), Nicolas Party’s Portrait, 2014 ($80,000-120,000), Sam Gilliam’s Untitled, 1971 ($500,000-700,000) and Félix González-Torres’s "Untitled" (Last Light), 1993 ($700,000-1M). The sale will also feature a selection of contemporary artworks sold to benefit BOMB Magazine’s endowment by Ugo Rondinone, Ed Ruscha, Vik Muniz and Raymond Pettibon. The live auction will occur in two sessions in New York on the 28th of February at 10am and 2pm.
