BRONX, NY.- The Bronx Museum of the Arts announced the appointment of seven new members to the museum’s board of trustees.
“We are very pleased and fortunate to welcome such a strong and diverse group of industry leaders in academia, art, architecture, finance, and social media who all share the museum’s dedication to making art accessible to all,” said Joseph Mizzi, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees.
The appointees are as follows:
• Angel Otero, Artist
• Dana Emmott, Owner, Elden Services Company
• Debbie Landau, Co-Founder and first President/CEO, Madison Square Park Conservancy
• Karen Robinovitz, Co-Founder / Former Co-CEO, Digital Brand Architects
• Mark Lu, Principal, Terracina Real Estate Management
• Nathaniel Wilcox, Associate Dean for Finance and Human Resources, The School of General Studies at Columbia University
• Susan Hinkson, Executive Vice President and Co-Leader, The Real Estate, Land Use and Zoning Practice Group at Capalino + Company
“We are thrilled to welcome this dynamic and diverse group of individuals to our Board of Trustees,” said Deborah Cullen, Bronx Museum Executive Director. “They embody the tremendous resources our community has to offer, and will serve to help us continue realizing the potential of this museum through their range of skills and experiences.”
As the Bronx Museum continues to develop and expand its programming and facilities, these new members will contribute expertise in fields as critical and diverse as financial planning, social media management, and the development of uniquely engaging public spaces. As it charts a course into the next decade, their talents will serve to further the Bronx Museum’s dedication to cross-cultural dialogues for diverse audiences, and role as a one-of-a-kind artistic resource for the Bronx and beyond.
THE NEW APPOINTEES
Angel Otero, Artist
The Bronx Museum organized Angel Otero: Elegies, the artist’s first New York museum solo exhibition, in 2017. Otero, who has family in the Bronx, was born and raised in Puerto Rico. In addition to his solo at the Bronx Museum, exhibitions of his work have been organized at Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, TX (2016); Centro Atlantico de Arte Moderno, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain (2015); SCAD Museum of Art, Savannah, GA (2013); and Contemporary Art Museum, Raleigh, NC (2012), and numerous group exhibitions and biennials.
Dana Emmott, Owner, Elden Services Company
For nearly a decade, Emmott has been involved with the Bronx Museum as the partner of the museum’s beloved former Executive Director, the late Holly Block. As the owner of the New York-based Elden Services Company, which specializes in services for residential and commercial properties, Emmott brings his business expertise to the museum’s board of trustees. Since joining the board, Emmott has been active on the Development and Gala Committees.
Debbie Landau, Co-Founder and first President/CEO,
Madison Square Park Conservancy
As a native New Yorker, Landau is passionate about making the visual arts accessible to the public, including in underserved neighborhoods throughout the five boroughs. As co-founder and first President/CEO of the Madison Square Park Conservancy, Landau is best known for creating the free public art program in Madison Square Park, commissioning nearly 30 groundbreaking exhibitions until her departure in 2013. In 2018, the Bronx Museum collaborated with the Madison Square Park Conservancy in 2018 with a dual presentation of works by Diana Al Hadid at the museum and park.
Karen Robinovitz, Co-Founder and Co-CEO,
Digital Brand Architects (DBA)
As the creative force and Co-CEO of the first talent agency dedicated to managing social media, influencers, content creators, and personalities, Robinovitz led DBA to an annual revenue of $70 million within seven years. Robinovitz’s career began as a journalist for WWD and went on to contribute to Harper’s Bazaar, Elle Magazine, and The New York Times. She is on the Board of Advisors of the Brooklyn Museum in addition to her role on the Bronx Museum’s board of trustees, where she is developing a strong influencer strategy for the upcoming Bronx Museum Gala on April 8, 2019.
Mark Lu, Principal, Terracina Real Estate Management and Co-Owner of Porto Salvo
Lu, the Bronx-based doctor-turned entrepreneur, immigrated from China to NYC in 1995. He oversees large portfolios of investment properties and is the co-owner of Porto Salvo, a restaurant group in the Bronx. He is passionate about assisting the economically disadvantaged and he founded the Sustainable Wealth Network to educate young professionals on financial literacy.
Nathaniel Wilcox, Associate Dean for Finance and Human Resources, The School of General Studies at Columbia University
Prior to Columbia, Wilcox was the Director of Operations for the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, where he served as the Project Coordinator for a $95MM restoration and expansion of the Andrew Carnegie Mansion in New York City. He began his career in education and arts administration as the Associate Financial Manager for Education at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and continues to support New York institutions like the Bronx Museum.
Susan Hinkson, Executive Vice President and Co-Leader,
The Real Estate, Land Use and Zoning Practice Group at Capalino + Company
Hinkson has held significant responsibility in both the public and private sectors. As a member of the Bronx Museum’s board of trustees, Hinkson, who was born and raised in the Bronx, brings her expertise in law and public service back to her hometown. She has previously served as Capital Program Manager for the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, Deputy Commissioner of Planning and Community Development for Sullivan County, Brooklyn Borough Commissioner for the NYC Department of Buildings and Commissioner of the New York City Board of Standards and Appeals.
