NEW YORK, NY.- Artists Space Executive Director and Chief Curator Jay Sanders today announced the appointment of two new staff members, who join the organization as it prepares to move into its new long-term home at 80 White Street later in 2019.
Miriam Katzeff joins Artists Space as Deputy Director. Katzeff was the Director/CoFounder of Primary Information, a non-profit organization devoted to publishing artists' books and artists' writings. She is also an independent curator and a former Director at Team Gallery (2005-2014) where she worked closely with artists to help produce artworks and curated exhibitions. As an independent curator, she has organized a program of political video at the Swiss Institute (New York) and co-curated exhibitions at the ICA (Philadelphia), MoMA-PS1 (New York), and White Columns (New York) with Primary Information Co-Founder James Hoff.
Hana Tran joins Artists Space as Exhibitions Manager and Producer, after serving as Project Manager at Jenny Holzer Studio since 2015. While working with Holzer, Tran oversaw the realization of site-specific commissions and major exhibitions with institutions including the Louvre Abu Dhabi, Blenheim Palace, Mass MoCA, Artist Rooms at Tate Modern, and the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao. She holds an MA in History of Art from the Courtauld Institute (2015) and a BA from Amherst College (2014).
Jay Sanders says:
I am thrilled to be adding two incredibly talented staff members to our organization. Miriam and Hana join Artists Space as we are intensively working toward the move into our new location at 80 White Street, and both will be important contributors to its future.
I have known Miriam for many years, and its a real coup to have her joining Artists Space as we prepare for our imminent next chapter. I have long been an admirer of Primary Information, and I know that she will be a natural and brilliant fit for the work we are collectively undertaking. Miriams experience co-directing her own non-profit will guide how she innovates Artists Spaces operational and fundraising endeavors toward an adventurous and buoyant future. She is someone who always puts artists first and will be an outstanding advocate for the mission of Artists Space.
Hana came to us through a highly competitive search process and will apply her rigorous skills and thoughtful expertise to how we bring the best organizational practices to bear as we scale up to our new gallery spaces. Hana will be on the front line of all our curatorial work, and I have total trust in her talents and enthusiasm for the ambitious projects that lie ahead of us in the next few years.
I cant wait to get started with Miriam and Hana, whose appointments bring us a major step forward in our vision for re-opening Artists Space. Were thinking every day about what might unfold inside 80 White Street - how a new space and a radical and open programmatic vision can catalyze great things. With our enhanced team of colleagues and the guidance of our passionately engaged board, I know that we will inaugurate a dynamic new reality for Artists Space beginning later this year.
